Do any accounts still offer the old "vanilla" ATM cards or are they all issuing debit cards now?

Why don't you want a debit card. Is there a difference in annual charges.

Personal choice. I feel I can control my money better with less choices to spend. I don't see why all banks would discontinue cards that were standardfor years.

Yes, there is, in the stamp duty. If use use it for ATMs only, it's €2.50, if you use it as a debit card, it's another €2.50

Standards? Progress? Getting rid of the Ireland-only Laser function was a good thing IMO

Agreed. However I wouldn't even want a laser card. One for atm withdrawals only. There were many such cards for years.

You can get a "CashCard" from UlsterBank, need a Savings account though. Only option as far as I know, otherwise you'll just have to exercise restraint
