Bank holiday shift coming up, 6 people are down to work, 3 male, 3 female. 3 early shifts available, 3 late.

If the names are being pulled out of a hat for the early shifts, ie the first 3 out of the hat get an early shift, what are the odds for the first 3 names out of the hat being all female?

There are 3 female staff, so they represent 3 out of 6.

Odds of first one being pulled is

    3/6

since there are only 5 left altogether now and 2 females. Odds of next one is

    2/5

    and this logically follows onto

    1/4 for next

    so 3/6*2/5*1/4

    =6/120 = 1/20

    20 to 1

Are you actually using a a hat to pull out the tickets?

a hat? no Fifa style pot with little balls inside that you pull apart to reveal a rolled up bit of paper with the persons name? C'mon, do it properly at least.

I think these odds may end up being skewed slightly depending on how friendly with the shift manager you are.

One in twenty is not twenty to one. It is nineteen to one.

Depends on a few things my learned friend

    What type of hat?

Is it a bowler hat..or a cocktail hat. You see a bowler hat is deeper so the independent adjudacator might mix the paper up more times

Is it a4 paper..pieces of a newspaper..you see pieces of the newspaper is more than likely lighter

What colour socks is the independent adjucator wearing?

    We need all this info
