i might put mtn bike bars onto an old Carrera road bike i have. The better half is gonna do some of the CaS this year, and the Mtn bike she has is about 500kg in weight, so i was thinking of making a cross bike...
i know you would need to change brake cables, and gear cables...
What else would need to be done/ changed?
Is it worth the hassle and money ??

the Mtn bike has flat bars, was gonna put the flat bars onto the road bike ... Her Mtn bike is very heavy, and she wouldnt be confident enough to ride the road bike with drop bars ..

I think the stem might need changing and as you say thr shifters and brake levers (and cables)

I've just changed from a flat bar setup to a dropped bar setup, so I now have a flat bar cockpit - stem, bars, brake levers, shifters, barends/bullhorns possibly for sale.

It's quite a nice setup - FSA stem/bars, Ultegra 10-speed flat bar shifters, Avid Single Digit brake levers and carbon bar-ends so it wouldn't be the cheapest option. PM me if you're interested. Comes with newish (less than 150km) inners and some outers.
