I'm looking to switch from a city centre GP to someone more local to home. This isn't very politically correct but my preferences are:

    - female
    - keeps up to date with new developments and practices proper evidence-based medicine, not old wives tales (my friend told me her GP told her to give up jogging in pregnancy as "all that jiggling up and down might cause the baby to fall out"...)
    - in general I'd probably prefer a more recently qualified / younger doctor
    - good communication skills and approachable
    - flexible office hours like early morning, late evening or weekend opening would be a bonus.

Very demanding, I know, but if you know a clinic or doctor that might suit me in Ballyboden or Rathfarnham, please let me know. Mods, if this needs to be by PM only, that's fine by me.

    Thank you.

I think you'll have to cast your net a bit wider. I can't think of any young, female GPs in that area. There's Dr Anne O'Flynn on St Enda's Drive but she wouldn't be recently qualified and she only works part time. She is good though. Most of the practices in the area are well established and have older, male GPs.

I can recommend Dr. Karen Gibney, a gynae specialist in her mid to late thirties with a really warm friendly bedside manner.

She actually lets you talk, instead of interrupting you like many GP's do.
I find her very approachable and she always makes me feel at ease.

She's at Dr. McDermott's surgery on Glendoher Road, Rathfarnham and she works Tuesdays, Wednesdays and possibly more days but I'm not entirely sure.

I'd recommend Dodder Park Medical (http://dodderparkmedical.ie) - Went a good bit before we changed to GP Now (they were doing family deals with a fixed price per month for unlimited visits - very good if you have kids).

Hi there, I'm looking for a gp with near the exact same criteria. Did you find anyone fitting? Or anyone know of a recent doctor/surgery that does? Thanks

I would still recommend Karen Gibney BUT she has set up her own clinic and it's a bit further for you.
It's above Spar at Scholar's pub on the Scholarstown Road.

Dr Rachel Hartnett is great. She is in ballyroan across from blue haven pub. All the GPs are really nice there.
