Heathrow travelling between terminals without connecting flights

Here's an odd one, appreciate if anyone has recent experience.

I am meeting my parents in London in a couple of weeks time for a mini-break. I'll be flying to LHR with Aer Lingus, arriving 8:05 at T1, and they are arriving on British Airways at 8:35 T5.

Question is: would I be able to use the transfer bus that picks people up from airplane steps and takes them to connection centre and onward to T5, in order to meet my parents there? I don't want to go to airside T5, I just want to meet them landside. But it would be much nicer and quicker not to have to get off T1, take the underground journey to T5 and walk to arrivals.

Anyone with recent connection experience in LHR? I had a connection there last year but I can't remember if they checked our bourding passes before boarding the bus or in flight connection centre.

Heathrow Express or the tube. I believe travel on the Heathrow Express within the airport is free.

Exactly, all BA flights to/from Dublin use T1.

No. They are travelling from Edinburgh to LHR with BA.

Ah ha ok well then you will have to meet them landside then and use the free transport options between terminals.

Just as an aside, BA are moving their DUB flights to T5 soon.
