    Hi
I'm looking for information re Laser Eye Surgery - particularly in Waterford or nearest possible location.
I am presently using glasses for reading & TV only ( otherwise my sight is good ) and would like to hear from anyone who has had the procedure done recently.

    Thank you

Sounds like you've the same eyesight as me before I got it done, I only needed my glasses for telly and computer etc but my God I did need them! My eyesight wasn't atrocious but I found it really frustrating and it was definitely getting worse.
I got it done with optical express and it was such a simple procedure and I've got a really weak stomach about that sort of thing! It was over in a couple of minutes and really didn't hurt, I wore sunglasses home and I could already tell there was a difference even though everything was a bit blurry. I was told to go home and sleep which I did and when I woke up it was like my life was in HD!! I was totally amazed.
I take it for granted now though as I just forget I ever had bad eyesight until I see something like this thread.

If you go with optical express, I have loads of vouchers for €100 off I can give you one :D

I think I paid 1500 but a man I met in the waiting room had the same as me but paid much less than me because he played hard ball with them whereas I just jumped in all enthusiastically. You just need my name, which I'll pm you now.

Conology I'd recommend you go to a couple of the places offering the free consultations and see which one you are most comfortable with, and which works out better on price, aftercare etc.

I went to Optilase (think they have a place in Waterford),
it worked out very well for me and I'm very happy with my experience, so they get a thumbs up from me.

No and I'm a serious wuss! Exactly what happened was they put numbing drops in and put these eye opener things on my eyes and did what felt like the eye puffer thing that you do in an eye test, I thought this was all prepping me but that was actually the "op"!

My brother-in-law had it done a few weeks ago and he said it was a very easy procedure.
He was wearing glasses and contacts and says he can see perfectly now without them. He was wearing the glasses for many years though and I had heard the procedure was more suited to people wearing Glasses, however recently there seems to have been changes / advances in this area and more people who require reading/tv glasses are reporting getting it done successfully.
My sister ( same requirement as myself ) is getting it done in the next week or so.
The big concern I have ( outside of the long term effect on my eyes ) is the cost. Apparently service providers will advertise one price which looks reasonable and then when you get the Check/test done the price doubles.
So that's why I'm going to "shop around " first - and you should too,

    regards

This is SO true, optical express advertise something like €400 per eye but even though my vision wasn't too bad at all it still came to 1500 including discounts and vouchers so be wide to them.

Hey guys, just wondering has anyone been to LaserVision Eye Clinic, John Fenton on Adelaide Road in Dublin? I am booked in for Lasik surgery in two weeks. Anyone got any feedback from this guy? He seems sound and knows what he is doing anyway!

    Cheers lads!

I had it done with John a few year's back and can recommend him. I went to a few places for a consultation, but I had a direct consulatation with John where I could ask him any questions I had which was a big plus. In the other places I was unable to talk with the surgeon directly.

Once you have it done, is that it for life or do you have to go back in a few years.

Both my parents had it done twice.

They got it done about 10-12 years ago and then again about a year ago.

This is person-dependent. Your eyesight will deteriorate as normal as you age eg long sightedness might develop. Some people wouldn't have a thick enough cornea for multiple surgeries.

Had it done on 2006. My partner waited until I had it done and realised that if I could do it, so could he

I haven't looked back - best money I ever spent.

Went to Wellintgon Eye Clinic in Beacon

Not sure if you've seen this thread

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056369377

Lots of feedback and then there's other threads on different companies etc.

prescription based pricing is BS.. It doesn't cost anymore money to correct -1 or -5. its mainly used so they can advertise €495 per eye and then say "oh you are -2.5? thats actually €899 per eye"

I went to John Fenton in LaserVision, a few friends have been too and cant recommend it highly enough. €1950 was the price and it doesn't vary based on your prescription :pac:

    Hi all
It's very rare to hear anyone speak negatively about this, but as I started this thread back in March I feel I should give people the benefit of my experience since then.

I was in the process of going for the procedure (for correcting Reading/TV) but I backed out due to an "Administration error " made by the company. I was not prepared to accept inefficiency for such an important procedure.
    1) The Laser companies will not tell you about the "bad experiences". They will say that only "in a very small number of cases" etc etc etc.
    2) They will get you to literally indemnify them for everything and anything that could or might go wrong and you will have to sign on the dotted line to accept their "Terms and conditions" at least 12-15 times before you will be accepted by them.
    3) You will also, not only sign the final paragraph, but actually re-write it "word for word" - You have to ask who is this protecting & why ? - It certainly is NOT - YOU.
You will literally have no comeback if anything goes wrong. Oh yes you will receive follow up treatment - but a lot of good that is if your vision is damaged for 6 months and the inevitable stress and inconvenience it will cause you.
    4) I know of at least 2 other people who are not at all happy with the results of the procedure ( similar to the procedure I was due to have) and who will have to undergo further treatment in the near future and are very worried about their situation. I think I had a lucky escape really.

So for those who are a bit sick and tired of wearing reading/Tv glasses, this is just a word of caution - think again before you go ahead with this. It might be wiser to sit and wait another few years for further advances in the technology before jumping in at this stage.
