Vrt'ing a car for a relation

    my uncle just brought a car in from the uk and he asked me if i could sort out the vrt for him. i live in mayo he lives in dublin, would i have to do it in a nct in dublin or could i do it in the west? to get the "D" reg

    you'll get a D if you use a Dublin address only.,wherever.

    If you live in Mayo and he lives in Dublin then he should use his address to get the much coveted "D-reg". All the paperwork will have his name on it, it's probably easier for him to vrt it himself.

    I was never aware that the "D-reg" is a coveted thing. Surely no one cares about the county on the reg plate! An MO reg will not devalue the car in any way but will increase obnoxiousness from other drivers in Dublin when they see the MO plate and assume it's a culchie on a day trip who can't drive in the city properly. Same effect as having an L plate on the car imo.

    I understand that people living in Dublin wants to have a D-reg, particularly on a new car. It can help resale down the line.
    Is there a particular reason OP that he can't vrt it himself? This thread explains the process.
