In mint condition, as close to new as possible!

Full 6500 Ultegra except 7700 Dura Ace bottom bracket

Brand new Jagwire cables, R55C3 pads and YBN chain

Mavic Aksium wheels have less than 250km and are also like new

This is a very rare bicycle especially in this condition so please keep this in mind if making an offer

The bicycle was purchased in the summer of 2011 as NOS from the UK and has been used for 3-4 months in that time.

Selling due to downsizing my fleet and need the money for uni fees.

    €850

Am I better off putting this on eBay as Ireland is not the ideal country to sell this bike in?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭Harrybelafonte

Don't think it has to do with Ireland, maybe more time of year. If I had the money I'd offer you something for the frame tbh.

I have put it on adverts and donedeal with little success. When is the correct time of year to sell this bike may I ask? Summer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 196 ✭✭Jim Murphy 69

I have to disagree as most of the people I know who cycle don't even know what a Klein even is! I have been commented on it twice, one chap knew what it was and the other thought it was a New Asian brand he had never heard of!

Beautiful frame and if I had the money I'd def be interested in the frame but I'm like you I'm trying to decrease the bikes and not increase. It took me 4 months to sell an immaculate colnago master. Klein are a niche market, maybe try retro bike or lfgss in the UK. Best of luck with sale

I would say you get more luck if you advertise it in UK, or in US. The audience here is tiny.

Very nice Bike. Good Luck with the sale!

Haha, "new asian brand" - Cretins.

Gorgeous Frame, if I had (1) Money and (2) longer legs I'd be very interested. Very nice. Internal cabling? Looks good.

I don't think people deserve to be called cretins for not being aware of a bike brand, especially a brand that catered more for MTB and weren't exactly a "major" brand. Bit like laughing at someone unaware of Pelizzoli.

Jim, it's a nice clean bike, but it's not one of the more interesting, eyecatching spray jobs. If it helps I'd recommend you split the thing. The components might sell here and you might get a decent whack on eBay, lfgss or retro bike for the frame. There's a niche market for them.

    I beg to differ...

    GLWS, OP!

I really don't have the time to sell separately so I will keep it here for a bit. The chap that didn't recognise the brand barely knew what bike he was riding himself so I will excuse him for the comment. We in Ireland are very predictable with bikes, it's just the same brands most of the time (few exceptions)!

I don't need it, and its too big for me, but I've loved these since back in the day, so I'll make you an offer of €550. Would also be interested in frame only if you want to split/keep the components....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,450 ✭✭✭Harrybelafonte

Spyderski, if you get it for 550, I'll take it off you in 6 months for 300 when you realise it wasn't the best move?

Jim, you need better pics, like this:

You could try explaining in the ad who klein are and why people should buy or want to buy your bike?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,270 ✭✭✭spyderski

In all fairness, if they don't know who Klein are (were), they're probably not the target market.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,971 ✭✭✭fat bloke

People who sell things routinely spend lots of money telling people why they need and should buy their products. As far as I can see, his target market is anyone with 800 quid to spend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,270 ✭✭✭spyderski

Anyone with 800 quid to spend on a 21-year-old bike they have never heard of? it's really only of interest to sad bike collectors.....like me.

I'm serious about the photos, better photos showing the nice paint job would help OP. Lose the elevated stem, the blue tape and wires. Kleins are beauties and I'd love to show up at a race on one.

Whether it's NOS or not (I'm presuming the implication there is that it's pre-1995), it's a decent price for a decent bike and I'd have it bar funds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭ryan0380

I think you would prob sell frame and forks much quicker, most people that buy frames like these like to build them up to their spec. The bars and stem take from what is a great frame IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,270 ✭✭✭spyderski

Lads, if offers were as plentiful as advice around here the OP would have sold his bike by now. One offer so far, and it's mine.

Perhaps ye might allow the seller to reply?

Thanks for all the advice, it has been coming at an almighty pace for sure! The bars are original but the stem that came with it was a Thomson 100mm. I switched it for the FSA high riser as I have long legs but a small torso. I can switch it back if anyone wants the Thomson. I have about 20 bikes so I can't really afford to disassemble it again and sell the frame and fork separately. I thought the matching cables suited the bike but maybe I am wrong? I look at the price it cost me 3 years ago and it almost sickens me to the core to see how much I am getting for it now. I really like 6500 Ultegra as it is just so endlessly reliable and shifts pretty good too. I know the stuff is not worth much in terms of value but it is good stuff. The 7700 bb should last forever too. I really like the paint job and is easily one of my favourite colours but that is subjective. I know they did some wacky colours back in the day but I was drawn to this one for sure. I cannot accept 550 as that is just too low but thanks for the offer anyway. I used to work for a frame builder in the UK and I am pedantically picky with my bikes, EVERY thread on the bike was coated in PFPE Kluber el-102 and NB-52 on the bearings. It really is in that good a condition! I will hopefully be getting my hands on a much better camera over the weekend so I will update them asap.

It sounds like you have a worse affliction than me - I've only the bare dozen! If this is as good nick as you say I can move a bit on price.

Have a nice set of Mavic Open 4 CCD with Ultegra 6400 Hubs that would be sweet on this, so if I let you keep the Aksiums can we do a deal @ €625?

It would be going to a good home and could keep my mint 1992 Cannondale 2.8 company - they could compare the smoothness of their welds!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 196 ✭✭Jim Murphy 69

If I keep the Aksiums I will let it go for 650.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,270 ✭✭✭spyderski

Done, subject to condition and the original thompson stem. PM me & we can arrange.

OP asked why the bike wasn't selling. We answered. Doesn't mean we have to fork out €650 to make him feel better. We don't all suffer the collector's affliction. Enjoy the bike. Riding it I hope.

Spyderski did not take the bike in the end. No given reason but just didn't turn up on the agreed day and has not replied since. Still for sale:
