I've been planning on getting a new build for a while, and with my computer dying the other day I guess now is the best time.
    Here's the usual info.

    1. What is your budget?
    Anywhere up to €2000.

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer?
Programming, gaming, everything else. I'd like to be able to stay on maximum settings for any new game for a while without having to upgrade.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows?
Maybe. I might already have / be able to get a copy myself. For now I'll say yes though.

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer?
    Nope.

    5. Do you need a monitor?
    Yes, three of them.

5a. If yes, what size do you need.
22' or more. So long as they're all '1920x1080', with maybe one being a greater resolution.

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals?
    Mouse and speakers.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking?
Not particularly. I'm happy with a good stock speed.

    8. How can you pay?
Preferably visa debit, but can work with other payment options.

    9. When are you purchasing?

    As soon as possible.

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based?
    No help needed.

A few other things I should probably mention:
-I'd like an SSD along with a 1TB internal.
-Depending on the overall price I'd also like to get a second HDD to put linux on as opposed to dual booting off of the same drive.
-Preferably two graphics cards, although that might just be me being greedy.
-Maybe an i7 if it's not too much more expensive.

That's about it. If I've left anything out I'll try add whatever other info is needed. Thanks :)

Wow this thread died in its infancy O_O *resses thread* Fixed.

Just thought of something: Are you dead-set on gaming with a full Eyefinity 5760*1080 setup, or do you want to game on one or two and intend on using the triple threat for a massively extended desktop for your coding and apps?

I would like to try out three screen gaming, but that's more an afterthought and not too important. Usually I'd be doing separate things on each monitor, like you said.

A little over budget but something like this should do the trick. If you want to be able to go into portrait mode for coding you're gonna have to spend another 100 or so for monitors with a decent pivot stand.

You can create a partition on the ssd for multiple os. I'd create another one to use as a cache drive for the hdd as well.

    Prices were got through www.geizhals.de

    Thanks, it all looks great!

Getting a monitor with a decent pivot would be a really good idea, so I'll probably opt for getting two regular monitors now instead of the three and get a good pivot-y one a little down the line.

About partitioning the ssd for multiple os's; I don't mind the drop in performance when booting from hdd for a secondary os, so I'll probably still get a second internal for that.

One thing I'm not sure on is getting the two graphics cards though. I've been out of the loop for a while and thought I might need two, but it seems like that one would do great by itself. Plus with the money freed up I could upgrade the i5 to an i7, and simply get another card when I'm able to to boost performance.

As I said, I don't know as much as I used to, so if I'm talking crazy please let me know.

Well the 2 cards was on the assumption that you were looking for a triple monitor gaming setup. That's a lot of pixels and would need 2 x 290's to get good frame rates on top settings.

If you're only gaming on 1 monitor you could drop 1 of the graphics cards, move down to a cheaper board and power supply or leave 1 card out for now and go single monitor with a single 290 and add the second card when/if you want triple monitors for gaming.

I'd probably opt for a single nice 1440p monitor for gaming though. You could add a second one or 2 1080ps to go with it.

Is 1440p worth the higher price? I would like to break away from 1080, but it's a lot of money to spend on a single monitor.

Would you just be better off booting Linux in a virtual machine inside Windows?
Same as bloodbaths really but with an i7 added. I'd be going for a single 1440P monitor as well. I used triple monitors before and wrecked my head. Single card is grand at the moment for 1440P with everything maxed out bar AA maxed out to the last in some games.

I could do that, but if I'm on Linux I wouldn't have anything to be doing on Windows so it would be a bit redundant to run a vm through it.

So 1440p seems to be the way to go then. I've taken a look but at their prices I'd like to hear from someone who knows more than me before picking one out.

Not really, ull get the same performance basically

You can get 27" 1440p monitors from Korea for as little as €250.

    Check out this thread.

Is there any real benefit in going for the i7 4770k over the 4770, since the OP said they weren't willing to try overclocking. I know it doesn't matter too much when you compare to the size of this budget, but saving a little here and there is always nice

Since he's paying for a higher end board that supports dual cards which also supports overclocking and a cpu cooler to keep the noise down as well as heat then he might as well go with an overclockable version. It's only a little more and it's an easy 20% performance boost whenever you want it.

Thanks for all the help everyone, hopefully I'll be ordering everything tomorrow :)
One last (hopefully) question; how long would it take for items that aren't in stock to come in? Living off a laptop never had any charm to it, and I'm itching to start putting everything together as it is.

It depends. Could be 1-2 days or 1-2 weeks. Better off changing to alternative that are in stock if you can.
