Using LinkedIn to find jobs in the Irish Funds Industry:

    Hi,

I am aware there are several threads on how useful LinkedIn is as a tool for finding new jobs.

I would just like to hear from people who work in the Irish Fund’s industry about there experiences using it.

I am quite sceptical of Recruitment agencies and was just wondering have people been approached directly by IFSC funds companies through the medium of Linkedin. I have been browsing the jobs web sites in the last few days and have not seen that many positions advertised, there are a lot of jobs in the industry but I just need to find out who is hiring !

    Thanks,

TBH you dont really need linkedln to find out who's hiring or not.

Irishjobs.ie wil give you a fair idea of ho's hiring, most pf the jobs advertised by companies will also be advertised by recruiters even though the positions have been filled just to fish for cv's.

In order to use LinkedIn correctly you need to create a network. From that network you try to figure out who is connected to companies you are interested in. Get them to introduce you to HR and other people involved in hiring.

Jobs appear on LinkedIn tend to appear there before recruitment sites. Sometimes it is only a day or two but other times they never go to recruitment sites. Agencies also contact you directly before they even advertise anywhere. I haven't used a recruitment website in a while as LinkedIn is so much better. I do have a large network of agencies but ultimately they do hold the jobs. You may mistrust them but you better learn to use them as they are a huge part of getting a job.

    Cheers guys,

I have set up a fairly detailed profile listing my extensive work experience over the last 5 years and education.

I have connected to numerous people I know from university/former work mates and have established a good network which I will keep building on.

I have started following a lot of companies, joined numerous groups related to my industry and updated my skills and endorsements with a lot off buzz words from my industry.

I am off travelling for six months and have just left my previous position but I am hoping that by keeping an up to date LinkedIn I may get some offers to build upon so I can hit the ground running with my job search when I get home.

However my profile views are still very low , it is roughly the same number of people who are in my network and I am being told I have shown up in three searches in 7 days. Is there anything else I can do to make recruiters find me?

You contact recruitment agencies and link to them. Agencies still hold most of the jobs. They also have a lot of people you can connect to in companies you might want to work in.
