I think it will depend on a lot of things, the area and probably the number of animals on the ground

If you're going to go on a Coillte lease you'll need to do the HCAP

    http://www.deeralliance.ie

Places on leases tend to go around during the summer time, here on boards there is usually someone with places available, other than that talk to your local firearms dealer etc. it's mostly word of mouth.

Regarding costs, I'm a little out of touch but a few years ago I was being offered places for between 500-1500 per season.

Personally Id stay away from leases for the time being. Plenty of lads out there that will gladly take your hard earned money off you and you'll be left very disappointed. Try hook with someone first to show you the ropes and get a better idea.

Theres no harm in contacting a Wild Life Ranger , many of them have done the HCAP for work related reasons , some of the ones I know did the HCAP for the exam ie the education element while other for the control training. Theres alot to it and its probably the best allround course you could do Mr Nolan really put a great deal of knowledge into the course . Also if the Ranger is anyway decent they will help you in your quest and you never know when they might ask you to come out and give a hand. It has happened in the past. Best of luck with it well worth the effort will make you a decent marks man and a switched on stalker.

When it comes to getting started into Deer Stalking you are going to find out really quick, its like a secret society.
There wont be many lads willing to give you any practical assistance, all you will get is the pro's and cons about HCAP etc.
I know this will be a contravertial thing to say but its very much a click, & unless you can spend serious money getting into a let, private ground is very scarce.
Good luck with your attempts , except that I have my rifle I am in the same boat as you .
