    Hi All,

Looking for a little help. We are getting married in the next few months and are starting to finalise a few things now.

In relation to the civil ceremony, could anyone point us in the direction of some nice poetry / readings. It has been an area we have sort of neglected and are only now looking into it. Any information / guidance / opinions would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Rob

P.S. We have looked a few websites, but the poems seems a bit too mushy for us.

    First off, congratulations! :)

Do either of you have an interest in any particular books or plays that you could work into your ceremony? There's lots of references for alternative wedding readings online. (Here's a few I found) Not sure if they'd be your cup of tea but they could be a good starting point?

Alternatively you could have a piece of music played or something like a sand ceremony, hand fasting, winebox ceremony done if readings aren't your thing?

P.S I ran into the same issue when looking for readings, so ended up googling 'alternative wedding readings', as the more traditional ones were a bit too soppy! But each to their own :D

    Thank you very much LisaLee.

To your first question, the answer would have to be no. However after posting last night I did a good bit of googling and have some food for thought. Your links above are great and will definitely provide some readings for consideration.

We have considered the candle and knot tying ceremony alright. Its mad how the most important aspect of the day is left til the last minute.

Tell me about it! But it all tends to fall into place in the end. Happy to help :)

I found that the town councils in the uk often have a list of vivil wedding readings on their websites so I trawled through a lot of those, there's a fair bit of repetition but in the end I got two short & sweet little poems for our younger readers and one called The Union by Robert Fulghorn (sp?) Which I don't think it's soppy. Also think of any favourite poets you might have ...... I'm putting Scaffolding by Seamus Heaney on the cover of the booklet, it just doesn't suit our reader but I think its really appropriate. There's a lovely quote from Bob Marley that's quite popular but it may be bordering on the soppy :-)

Are there any songs that mean something to you that you could have the lyrics read? We had "I Wanna Grow Old With You" from The Wedding Singer as one of ours. It went down really well as it was a bit different.
