Write-Off & Condition Data Alert on Motorcheck Report

We're currently looking at a couple of cars (one I really like and the other my wife likes). I ran a Motorcheck report on the one my wife likes and it rang a few alarm bells to me.

The most serious of these was the "Write-Off & Condition Data" alert which states "The vehicle may have been damaged, flooded, stolen, used as a garda vehicle, or the subject of an insurance write-off". Now the report does state that it was not a "Write Off (Cat. A/B)".

Does anyone have any idea how to track down the actual reason for this warning? Could ring the Gardai to perhaps scratch them off the list but that's all I can think of. Unless I ring every insurance company and check the reg with them. Owner seemed very surprised when I rang him asking about the report.

    Other notable information:
    1. Usage Status was "exempt" for the first year of the cars life and then registered as private.
    2. The current owner only has it since November and he's not a dealer. In our first phone call I thought he said he had it a year but he may have said "since last year".
    3. Previous owner was a "Private (Company)" whatever that means. When asked the current owner said it was a charity. First owner had it for 2 years, then a dealer for 2 months, second proper owner had it for 4 years.

Other than that it looks ok.

I would find it strange that the first owner had it for 2 years but was tax exempt for only 1 year.

Yeah hard to figure that one. Perhaps it was used for someone that had a disability for just one year?

Seems odd though without the ownership change

Unless its something very rare I'd give it a miss.

Call me cynical, but there's probably a reason its cheaper than usual.

+1 especially with the bad flooding in recent months.

Could have been exempt under disabled drivers and passengers scheme and disabled person died, exemption passes with the person who was entitled and registered owner only changed taxation class when it expired (not legal but ...) registered owner and person with entitlement do not have to be the same..

    Could have been.

Too many questions with that car so moved on. The seller has since relisted the car for €300 less so they might know something I don't. Quite suspicious that they wouldn't meet at home either. Dunnes Stores was their location of choice.....
