Wondering .....

I received a call recently from an Eircom rep (I guess to get me into a contract of some sort), who suggested to me that I could avail of a broadband only service, with no phone line rental, even though I made it clear that e-fibre is not available to me (and probably won't be in my lifetime).

Has something changed with Eircom that they now do ADSL broadband only without line charge? ....... or is this just another example of an Eircom rep spouting nonsense?

I suspect the latter, but just in case I missed the memo I am asking here ;)

That's the first time I've heard that Eircom are naked DSL. You could of course just not use the phone, and only the broadband, so perhaps he was trying to see you just broadband with no voice package.

I'll move this to the Broadband forum, you might get some more information there.

    Thanks for the move ;)

I don't believe it .... not without some confirmation from other than an Eircom phone rep ;)

Do you have any examples of this?

I can't give you names now can I.

Customers on sadsl get dummy circuint numbers and are otherwise the same.

Not looking for 'names' just wondering what providers offer this. I just never heard of this type of service before.

Are you guys talking about stand-alone ADSL, as in, no phone?

Yes. Though there's little difference, you simply cant make calls if you wanted to.

So this Solo/Stand-alone service still requires you to pay line rental? I wonder what the OP's comment about no line rental is all about. Somebody blowing smoke I presume!
