    Hi guys,

I'll be moving to belfast soon and want to bring the car with me. It's originally from scotland and was brought across by the pervious owner.
    Anybody do this? Much hassle?

Got this info from the DVLA:

    • filled in application form V55/5 (for used vehicles)

    • fee for the vehicle tax (cheques or postal orders made payable to DVLA Swansea)

    • the V561 certificate of export, foreign registration document or any other papers relating to the vehicle (must be original) - no idea if i have this, have a slip off the old v5 document, can i get this again?

    • original current British MOT test certificate (if applicable) - assume it needs a new mot anyway?

•Photocopies of documentation confirming your name and address - Don't have an address yet

I've also booked it into the nct centre to get the vrt rebate examination. think you get the rebate there and then but have 30 days to deport the car. So don't want to get it and then run into issues deporting.

You definitely don't get your VRT repayment there and then during inspection.
Inspection is just so they can see how much car is worth.
Then you have 30 days to remove car from Ireland.
And once your register it in new country (NI in your case) you will need to provide VRT people with documents confirming you registered vehicle in there. Once this is done, you will get repayment.

Looks like theres a good bit i need to do first before i register it in the north
-sort out a northern address and insurance number
    -mot the car
    -fill in the required forms

Bit of a pain that you only have 30 days to do it, could easily see paperwork/mot delaying it

Who told you, that it's 30 days only.
You can take an long as you want.

All you need is remove vehicle from ROI withing 30 days from the inspection.
Then you can take your time, and once it's registered in NI, you just forward copies of documents confirming it was registered there to Irish revenue. Then they issue you refund.

Ah i assumed it meant the car had to be registered in another county within the 30 days - not that it just shouldn't be here .
