New Job in ROI

I recently started working in ROI having came from NI.

I got my first payslip through and the amount of tax I was deducted seems crazy.

The payslip says that my tax status is W.

Does it matter where I am resident and if so is it more beneficial for me to be resident in ROI?

Would be grateful for any help.

    Thanks
