I don't think much of it to be honest, anyone i have spoken to has no interest in restarting it, especially when they have to put money upfront for it.
Seems and actually profits two very different things.

Article on today's Sunday times about a possible restart. My own thoughts are its a crop best left to the 3rd world through the more efficient sugar cane plant.

Aside from that if anyone wants to restart sugar beet production leave them off; but very important minus any subsidies, grants or incentives of any form (free buildings, job creation grants etc absolute ZERO outside grant assistance) from the government or EU. Also make it clear to all potential farmers that they are on their own from the outset so if they have a bad year, poor world price or harvest do not come crying back to government for help at any stage.

The antics and wastage of money of the old sugar industry, in particular during the final years, was a disgrace we do not need round 2.
