    Hi everyone,
Just to let you know we have the details for the Ras Naomh Finian up on our website now:

    http://www.clonardroadclub.com/2014_ras.shtml

We have moved the start this year to Mother Hubbards, which gives everyone a bit more space to park, as they have a large car park in off road there.

We will also have some food served after the races in Mother Hubbards, where the prize presentations will take place.

Note also, that this year we also have a Women's race - rolls out just behind the A4 race, and turns around earlier (at Rochfortbridge), which is 44km.

All races will finish just before Clonard Village. Route map/profile, and further details are on the website at the link given above.

    Hope to see you there!
    - Clonard Road Club

    What time is registration?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 clonard_rc

    What time is registration?

…opens at 09:30. When you pull into the car park, there's a big wooden house (log cabin) at the front, and the sign on is in there.

Is there on line registration, or is it just turn up on the day?

Is there a prime this year? That caught me out last year, it wasn't mentioned in the prize list and I missed the pre-race announcement.

Going to try and make this one - always enjoy it ... even when it snowed a couple of years back!

it damn nearly killed me last year. hahahaha. I missed it aswell and was wondering why the hell is everyone speeding up (before realising I was at the back of the bunch and having to bust a gut to keep up!!)

    :o What's a prime?

    :o What's a prime?

It's a mid-race prize, like the intermediate sprints the pros have. In this case it was at the top of the only climb in the race, on the outbound leg. I pretty much towed a Dublin Wheeler up to it last year, not realising why he jumped me near the summit until it was too late.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,460 ✭✭✭lennymc

there was another race later in the year, and again, there was a prime after the first lap. I was wondering why people were flying through the last corner. I really should listen at the start of races.

ah yeah it's just a 'register on the day' job - no online entries ;)

:D Ha! yeah and that hill has the actual top of it 'hidden' from view as you climb it....quite a few sprinted for the first part of it, only to then realise the 'real' summit is a few hundred metres further up the road!

We might have a little KOM prize again this year alright - think negotiations are ongoing with a sponsor :P. We'll get the PA on the day to shout a bit louder into the mic to make sure everyone knows in advance of the start ;)

A very well run race overall from start to finish, fair play to Clonard RC.
I could do with a spare set of legs now for tomorrow's Newbridge circuit.
    Any results available?

A4: In retrospect I enjoyed that. Found it hard going all the way through though. After being unceremoniously dropped last week, the brief effort must have stood to me. I managed to make all the selections this week, though I didn't feel up for it on the drive down. On the return leg the hill seemed to cause a split but a fair few got back on. Then some strong lads hammered away at the front pretty much the whole way home. The last roundabout seemed to cause another selection (?) but I'm not sure. I looked back after the turn and there was a big gap to the next man. As it hotted up for the sprint I put some power down but the legs told me no in advance. There was no point contesting, I had burnt all my matches.

My analysis may be all wrong. I was too busy looking at the wheel/arse directly in front of me the entire time.

Anyone think to ask them why?

Thank you to everyone who turned out to today for our race, and of course to everyone who helped out with marshaling etc.
Thanks also to boardsies for the feedback - much appreciated!!!

We're just waiting for all the photos from today to be sorted and filtered etc., and will upload to the race page as soon as that's done.

All the results and race report are on our website now (bit late I know….stickybottle beat us to it!)

well done on the win waxie. Attacked 10k from the start and stayed away with a 1 miniute 40 gap I heard.

Yeah the head wind out helped the cause. Not sure what to expect next week in the A3. Hats off again to Clonard road club for a well run event.

Well done man! I was in the group behind ye and I thought we were sprinting for 1st but a lad fell off in front of me and that took me out of contention. Just managed to miss him but if I had crossed the line first I'd have gone all Sagan-mad thinking I won it so that would have been major embarrassing! Ha!

Anyways there are photos on CRC Facebook page or hang on and I'll upload them to the website whenever midlands broadband speeds allow the photos to finally upload and i'll embed them to the race page.

Andy69 , gas man that made me smile ! I heard there was a crash at the end. Im a terrible sprinter and hence the reason for jumping and trying to stay away. Too many times i have burst a gut to lose out in the end. Its a love/hate sport for mad men :-)

Thanks to Clonard CC for the women's race on Saturday.

It was good to give the legs a try. I made a doomed break for it outside Rochfortbridge on the way back, I knew as soon as Ann Dalton rode up to me it was all over! I finished in the bunch but I'm happy with the day out.

Average speed for the women's race was 34kmh. There was a bit of negative riding at the start because no-one wanted to be in the wind but the attacks soon started on the drags and didn't stick until Ann made the break on the way back and rode clear.

    Some corrections I spotted:

    UnPlaced A/2's:
1st - Niall Quinlan Epic MTB
2nd - Colm Bracken Kilcullen / Murphy Surveys
    3rd - John Dorris Sorrento

    Should be:

    UnPlaced A/2's:
1st - John Dorris Epic MTB
2nd - Colm Bracken Kilcullen / Murphy Surveys
3rd - Niall Quinlan Epic MTB

    ??

Thanks! yeah the 'Sorrento' entry seems to be a mistake alright, don't know how we got that! Both John and Niall are listed as 'Epic MTB' in the commissaires report.
The placings in the Comms Report though are as we had listed them above (i.e. Niall 1st / Colm 2nd / John 3rd).

Wonder if the guys need to contact the commissaire in case they get the wrong points awarded or whatever?

    One 'r' in Doris. John's ex-Sorrento.

Certainly, by his own admission, Niall definitely didn't beat John .... but great to see two Epic MTB members taking on the Roadies!!!

Thanks. Good to be in decent shape again after last season's write off. Last race I expected any kind of result in but had the dubious pleasure of being the weakest of a four man break. Really tough day in the wind with some super strong riders but I knew my place and was happy to pick up fourth.

You looked very well for a man not long after surgery. The turbo beckons methinks!

Sorry was out playing music all day today - busy weekend! Anyways we seem to have some problems getting the photos uploaded to Flickr which in turn prevents me from embedding the set of photos onto the web page.

If you have access, here are two links to the photos on BookFace, but they would be in pretty crappy quality as usually for FB:

    https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.10152661750218222&type=1

    https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.10152671265063222&type=1

….hopefully the High Quality ones will be able to get uploaded to Flickr, and then you can see yourself in full HD :p
