Had to jump start my 07 focus 1.4 over the weekend. This didn't work. It won't turn over now and the lights on the dash come on with anENGINE SYSTEM FAULT message. Mechanic wreckons from 1 to 3 of the computers in it are fried?? Says it has to go to main dealer for diagnostics to see exactly what the issue is. Could I really have done that much damage by jump starstarting it? Any ideas?? Thanks :(

if you put the leads on the wrong poles you could well have done damage.

As johnboy26 said if you put the positive on the negative and the negative on the positive you could have done serious damage to the ecu. I have also heard that it is risky enough to jump newer cars as they have so many computers. Was it an older car you jumped it of. Apparently the safest way to jump a car other than using a booster box is to attach the batteries positive to positive negative to negative and leave both cars of and the voltage difference will mean the flat battery will charge of the charged battery. The only issue with this is that if the battery in the working car is not particularly big or it is left to long has to charge the flat battery to much you may end up with two flat batteries. I would just use a booster myself unless the cars are older. What way did you jump the car op ?
