    Hi All

I'm currently in my first year of my Marketing course in the Dublin Institute of Technology in Aungier Street.

As part of my course I'm required to accompany a sales representative for a day and I was wondering might you or know anyone here be able to assist me or direct me to a sales representative who maybe interested in allowing me to accompany them on one of their working days, Observing their selling activities and their interactions with customers.

The day would only consist of 6 hours and may happen on any normal Monday-Friday that the Sales representative feels most appropriate.

It would be much appreciated if I received a PM with a response if possible Thank you.

    Kind Regards

PS Sorry if this is in the wrong Thread.

Are you looking specifically for door to door reps, or ones that stay in one place?

It would be door to door as I'm required to observe their visits to Businesses/Customers on their normal daily duties/routines.

    Thanks for the reply

Might be worthwhile getting a letter from college with details and sending it along with a letter to some of the larger companies. Could also see an issue with NDAs.

Ahh, be careful about your assumptions there.

Not all repping is "door to door". In fact, the better reps probably don't work that way, they have a sales funnell that get filled in various ways, and plan interactions with customers in various ways/places, inlcuding but not only visits to customer premises.

Thanks for the reply but the I'm not assuming anything both types of Sales representative's if you will have credible important careers. The Lecturer sets the assessment and awards the grade and prefers if the shadow day is part taken with a rep who visits customers directly.

Have you considered contacting pharma companies about this? Many of them maintain their own field force (especially those with OTC portfolios) in house and most of them are professional, career reps who chose that path.

It seems like a strange criteria for a college lecturer to set for a first year student. The college really should be providing better linkages with industry; especially a DIT which proclaims to be more vocational.

Also, as a future marketing professional, you are expected to start using your thinking machine in order to succeed. Not just ask for help. So you should be trying to figure out the pros and cons of a professional rep bringing an unknown quantity along to commercially sensitive meetings. This is far better worked out by contacting sales directors of companies that would be amenable to this sort of thing. So, as someone suggested, pharmas possibly. Or research what companies have connections with your college, especially the business section. Google and see which sales directors are ex DIT. You have got to get your thinking cap on if you are to be successful in marketing.

Source: I was a sales professional for 15 years and also have an MSc in Strategic Management from DIT.

Best of luck and get creative!

    Hi All

As the above suggests I'm currently in my first year of my Marketing course in the Dublin Institute of Technology in Aungier Street.

As part of my course I'm required to accompany a Sales Representative for the small number of 6 hours if anyone knows a representative that would be much appreciated.

I'm willing to Discreetly offer the Sales Representative money (there hourly rate of pay for 6 hours) if he/she allows me to shadow them for the day /B]

If anyone is or knows anyone who might be interested in allowing me to shadow them for the day a PM be much appreciated.

    Kind regards

Most sales reps who work door to door work on a commission rather than hourly basis.

Tbh mate, I don't think you're going to have much luck. The vast majority of sales reps can be sacked for letting someone come with them, because it impacts sales badly.

Thinking outside the box, would you consider asking a super shady business that does door to door selling. Heck, they take people door to door as part of their "training", so can't see them saying no.
