    How so?

Because that's how the operators are treating it, none are offering it to existing customers, making them sign to longer more expensive contracts.

Bealtaine - You are full of waffle ,
The proof of the Pudding is that being over for miles from nearest Meteor Mast the difference is huge , My 3G gave me 5 Bars while I get 3 Bars of 4G , I run a Blueface VOIP account perfectly , Youtube & netflix do not Buffer , Other low latency dependent services that cant be mentioned here work flawlessly ,

    How?

Watty explained it here before, in order for 4G to be better than 3G it needs two things, 20mhz channels and fibre backhaul. Comreg saw it as a cash cow and auctioned it off in 5mhz channels and most of the masts are fed by microwave radio link that are already maxed. This makes it no better than 3G, more of the same. It will do a well while the networks are empty buy is pretty much doomed when they get busy. Remember, we saw tech demos of 3G showing 50mbit+

If Watty had his way Internet Radio would be banned and Instead of using RTE Player on the BUS we should all carry a portable UHF Aerial to watch Saorview on our Phones/Tablets

No, that's exactly what mobile should be for, for on the go use, not oversold to the people by the Government as a real broadband substitute.

Well if that's the level of your understanding of radio... "I have 5 bars" then I despair, this was all explained to you many times before. It works for me so you are wrong

Yeah bit how is this going to force me into paying more money and make me take out a longer contract?

I am consumer , I dont need to understand radio to know 4G is vastly Superior to 3G , You just don't get it..

You've shown yourself to be completely lacking in basic knowledge of how shared systems work and then jump up and down saying but "it works for me".

You only have access to 4G until July, then you'll need a nice shiny 4G contract. It's all part of the marketing.

Good luck to you. This is the same Three who's 3G network is in tatters because of completely over selling unlimited packages. This is the same Three who after years of operating here have not made a single penny, this will not go on forever

Three are charging €5 per month, not necessitating a new contract as far as I know. It remains to be seen what congestion does, but at the moment, 4G is very impressive for me on three. I've never speed tested under 10Mbit and have regularly gotten 40Mbit +

This was not or ever the case on 3g

I agree , It is clearly an improvement on 3G , Some idiots on here cant see that and claim the Irish Telco's spent €850 Million on 4G Licenses as a marketing excercise.

Don't tell your neighbour because the minute you do its halved. It's an empty network, of course it will be good, there's nobody on it, wait till they oversell it

They are already are using it , Still very Happy with it. You are a fool to say 4G is no better than 3G

Very very few people are using 4G right now. Most handsets dont support or dont have the APNs added. Just you wait and see.

Of course, but to say it's no better than 3G and solely a marketing ploy is incorrect. It's debatable how much of an improvement it is, but it is an improvement.
