Kevin Sharkey Painting Thrown in Skip

My brother in law was the perfect Celtic Tiger drone. He did everything the Saturday edition of the Irish Times told him to do, including buying a Kevin Sharkey painting for thousands which he hung in his wine bar proudly proclaiming 'worth every penny, he is the Irish Van Gogh!'

The brother in law is a decent-hearted fella, but shall we say a little too media-possessed and his wine bar went to the dogs a few years back. Last night, I asked him what happened to the Kevin Sharkey painting. "Threw it in the skip."

For me, the statement represented Ireland perfectly. Not sure why. Just did.

If I found one inside in a skip I doubt I'd recognise it as being anything of value.

That's idiotic. I'd only buy art if I actually like it and not because some numpty says I ought to. As for throwing art in a skip......grrrrrrrrrr

Looked like a few blogs of paint on a canvas to me. Not even interesting blobs.

My dad has a bench that looks like his paintings. It's where he keeps his paint stirring stick.

Can't see the point of buying a painting. Not while Google images is free.

I personally like his work. Regardless of whether you like it or not though, art should never be discarded like that. Either give it to someone who would appreciate it or, seeing as his paintings are currently going for about €3-4k, donate it to a charity so some benefit will be derived from it. Throwing it in a skip is just moronic.

Throwing it in the skip is just dumb. Even if the art has lost value just stick it in the attic and wait for the artist to die.

    Sunrise Ibiza. Sold for €4,500.00.

    Sorry but.....huh???

I know it's not "that" expensive for "art" but who decided he could sell this for that kind of money?

Your brother in law sounds like the worst kind of vapid bum-bum hole, OP. No offence to you.
Please don't tell me his 'wine bar' was actually built into his gaff?

That's his problem right there. Damm cheap imitation knock-offs. Reminds me of the time I spent a fortune on genuine Dolce & Banana gear.
