Xbox 360 dvd drive replacement woes

Hi all, ok so I have a problem, the DVD drive on my xbox 360 stopped working, so I got an replacement (used but exact match), and swapped them around, I got the replacement from friend and have been assured that it works but it just starts to load a game but then stops.

Now after doing a bit of research which I should have properly done at the start, I've found out that the drives have a firmware key, and I should have taken the PCB board of the old drive and put it on the new, and it's not a simple plug and play swap like in a PC.

My problem is the old drive along with the PCB board are long gone in the rubbish, so my question is, is there a way around this with out the old PCB board? I'm going to be using it online so I don't want any solutions that's gonna risk an xbox ban.

    Cheers all

Well since you through out your original drive your only option now is to R-JTAG or RGH your xbox to get the dvd drive key. It's handy enough to do but if you never soldered before then I suggest you get someone to do it. There is a sticky here with people who do the service, find somebody local and PM them to see if they can do it for you.

RGH or DGX method to get your DVD key. Once you have DVD key, remove the Coolrunner or DGX then you just need to flash the DVD drive key to the replacement DVD drive. The 360 should be back working in retail with matching dvd keys.

If you go to the trouble of RGH a console I would leave the hack in place and get a matrix trident triple NAND solution to have the best of both worlds. Able to play online and also have homebrew goodness. Simple to install.

Yeah, personally I'd do the same thing and after spending money, time and effort for a DVD drive key fix.

If you aren't interested in a modded console I think you would better off just buying a new or second hand console.

Second hand consoles are sub €100 and you can pick up a new one for £140 off amazon (4gb, but im almost certain with a new encolsure you can transfer the hard drive from an old one)

Sell what you have and you'll get a couple of quid

Cheers for the advice guys. I think it's gonna be too much hassle to get repaired so I think I'll just get myself a cheap second hand one instead.
