Do you even use the camera on your smartphone?

Every new smartphone that comes out seems to heavily base its marketing around the fact that it can take pictures, and why this new camera is "better" than previous/other cameras. (And don't get me started on the whole "megapixel" con.)

But seriously, who the hell wants to have a camera with them at all times?

I probably take, on average, about one photo per week. Maybe over the Christmas I'll take a few dozen. But even at special occasions, I purposely make sure I don't spend even 10% of the occasion holding my camera in front of my face.

Why are people so obsessed with taking photos or videos? Honestly, when are you ever going to want to look at them again? You might want one or two, fair enough, as it will help to evoke pleasant memories. But taking ten/twenty/thirty photos... do you not realise that there's far more pleasure to be got by actually experiencing and enjoying the moment??

And trust me - nobody is interested in seeing any of the photos you take. Not really. Family, maybe - at a push.

So my question is, when you think about it, how much do you really want a camera on your phone? And when you think about it, how much do you genuinely use it? (see poll)

You should give it another try, the zoom functions are much better these days

I'm absolutely sick of seeing this (especially on boards). You do know you can take a photo but still experience a moment don't you?

You don't need to take photos but clearly people enjoy doing so and that's it really. I like to take the odd photo but a lot of the time I forget. It can be funny after a night out when you meet up with your friends and look at all the photos you forget taking together. It's brilliant.

Try sticking a Kodak on the press while in bed with the missus and then get back to me.

I use it a bit, but to be honest if I didn't have a camera on me they're not photos I'd regret not taking.

Still, it's nice to document certain, random moments.

I generally don't share them on social networks though.

Just to take the odd photo of my penis to see if it looks any bigger from the opposite angle

You're one of those people in front of me at gigs with their phone out for the duration, aren't you?

I make puctures instead of making a note, example shop sign with phone number or a plumbers van. Also work schedule, always at hand that way, etc.

But it's... just part of the phone, it's not taking up extra space. To answer your question, obviously loads of people use the camera on their smartphone, even if just the odd time. Why are you asking that question? I don't even have a camera anymore because of it.
I probably take, on average, about one photo per week.
I don't even take that many.
Honestly, when are you ever going to want to look at them again?
But shur you know they will want to.

No, don't "trust" you. Why do people always say that on these angry threads (particularly the ones about kids)? "Nobody" is interested, but... sorry... people actually are interested.

Strange, whingey, bitter thread bitching about everyone else but the OP appearing to think they are better than others.

A fair few such threads of late, from the same handful of people.

I wonder will the next thread be "Why are people so shallow?" or "Why are people obsessed with celebs?"
There's a teenage angst forum somewhere isn't there?

I sell stuff for a Living.

Company expect me to fax them up 'dockets' at the end of each day. I just take a pic of the docket and email it from the phone though. It's about 50 times faster than faxing, and cos I'm a clever Bastard. ;)

Apparently Bill Murray goes up to people in McDonalds, eats one of their fries and says "no one will believe you."

I take pictures of sunsets and sunrises and and trees and birds and that, wouldn't be bothered photographing people.

Mostly just take pictures of where we are parked in Dundrum shopping center.

I specifically said that I can understand taking one or two photos, and then I went on to say that I was referring to taking 10+ photos. So you've responded to something that I did not say.

95% of the photos I've taken over the past few years have been of my baby nieces/nephews. So I'm the same. But it only takes a second to take a photo, compared with the hours, days, weeks, months and years that you're actually spending with them. If you're at an event / night out / gig / convert / festival / whatever, you're there for a very short period of time. Try actually experiencing it, rather than taking photos of the experience.

I voted before I saw someone mention snapchat. I take a ****load of pictures if you include snapchat. Hundreds of lewd images.

I take maybe a pic a month, but then again I use it more when doing write-ups or I'm at a party.
Without it I wouldn't take any pics at all so it's good to have, wish I'd got one sooner.

I'm not a big fan of phones in general. They're loud, cost money and make people think it's okay to talk to me.

They also give me a fright when they ring.

But how else would people put pics of their little darlings on Facebook & other social media without cameras on smart phones

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 499 ✭✭greenflash

    Genius!

Yeah, inability to remember where you park is a sure sign of genius. As is spelling "centre" wrongly.

I take pictures of my poos for posterity. Would you
like to see some of the aforementioned poo pictures, OP?

I'm more than willing to share.
