Linky above. A amazing achievement. But id see it as a once off car.

Theres apparently 29 built. Why not go one more and meet the minimum production limit for Guinness WR? With his history id be very surprised if you found 29 cars of that spec. Id be very surprised if you found 29 venoms at all.

Why not take the few more mins and do a second run the opposite way.

Theres always some reason thats not his fault why he can't make a official record.

Its pretty meaningless if they only did one run in one direction.
Maybe the car would have blown up if they did a second run :p

In fairness they dont seem that unreliable. I don't doubt it would have made a second run. They say on the day it was a 3mph crosswind. So no help here

0.6mph quicker than a Veyron isn't much. It still shows how excellent the Veyron is to be fair, given it's design brief for comfort, drivability, reliability and that it must look like it does. They had no such restrictions and got 0.6mph more!

Veyron does its top speed sans drama. Nothing else comes close.

I'm inclined to agree. If they were serious, let them build the 30 cars, and do the necessary number of runs under supervision to get the record. As it stands, it's bullsh1t.

And that video is cringeworthy stuff.

Hennessesy V8 twin turbo engines are legendary in the world of V8s and performance cars.

270mph on a 3.2 mile airplane runway in a manual gearbox car is a fantastic achievement and with not that big a financial budget or time spent building and producing the cars.
Look at the millions and millions and millions of euros and 10 years that VW/Bugatti spent to get their car to do 268mph on a 5 mile long purpose built flat tarmac test track.
So on that basis well done indeed to John Hennessey and his crew.
Heres a different video of the Venon GT doing a top speed run.265.7mph from a standing start in 2 miles on a rutted bumpy runway in a road car is some speed.
Car also holds Guinness world record for 0-300kph from standing start, again done on a bumpy rutted runway.

Interesting interview between Jay Leno and John Hennessey on the building the Venom GT.

I'm not doubting it's a fantastic achievement but it's still just a modified car. A Veyron will comfortably cruise at 250mph+ every day without complaining, I can't see Venom doing that for too long. There have been lads knocking out Skylines and GTRs with 1000-2000bhp for years now, I don't see this as being any great achievement.

Theres no R31,32,33 or 34 Skyline in the world with 2000bhp.

The closest to 2000bhp is Reeces HT car in NZ with 1668bhp and thats a dedicated drag car. That car requires very regular rebuilds after a couple of drag runs.

Current most powerfull road R35GTR is AMS with 1500bhp.

I didn't say there was. I said 1000-2000, it's a range. 1600 is said to be the absolute limit for an RB26 which is shockingly low of course.

there was a JUN R33 with 1000bhp for sale in Belfast a few years ago for stg£100k iirc, that's when I started playing the Lotto

Shame they had to resort to rwhp and not awhp to achieve those figures.
I know the R33 you are refering too,it wasnt 1000bhp.It turned out to be 915 max bhp around 800 at wheels and had a few teething problems with it.
A friend of mine who lives over in Surrey UK walked away from it and built a step 3 2.8 high deck GTR with 1001bhp instead.
