BMW Condition Based Servicing

I've a 2009 318D MSport that is due it's next "service" in May (I bought it last May) but that's just a diagnostic check as far as I can tell. It's covered under the service inclusive package the previous owner purchased.

I do relatively low mileage for a diesel so I was considering getting an oil change as well, but the iDrive is telling me I don't need it changed until next year.

Am I safe enough following the CBS? Obviously I'd like to save a few quid if BWW is telling me I don't need it!

When was the car last serviced (assuming May when you bought it?)

Yep serviced last May, there's 68k KM on the clock IIRC.

When I had my 3 Series I generally ignored the CBS system as some of the intervals were too long imo. I got my oil changed every 15k km despite what the CBS system said. Imo the official intervals are too high and nothing more than marketing by manufacturers to seem attractive to business users.

When was the last oil change on the car? If you are doing low mileage then you should be getting the oil and filters changed at least once a year rather than at mileage intervals.

Yes, dont forget that oil deteriorates over time as well as by use.

Id do a year or 10k miles, which ever came first. dont skimp on oil and filter changes with the modern diesels, bmw's most of all...
