    Why don't you like foursomes?

I find it very hard to get into both in terms of playing well and enjoying it.

apart from that, I've a friend in dublin for the weekend and dont get to play golf with him to much so its a good opportunity to do so (provided I can find a course with an earlish tee time....)

Have a look at teetimes.ie or golfnow.ie they will give you a list of slots in clubs that aren't reserved for members.

Weekend mornings especially during the limited daylight hours of the off season with no open competitions are always tough. GolfDublin.com is showing Luttrellstown available at 07:30 for €36 and Roundwood (never played) at 08:00 for €30. If you can hold out until 09:00 Headfort New is available for €30 also.

Regarding foursomes, it really is a competition difficult to get excited about and I don't understand why so many of the inter club competitions have the format as foursomes. It puts me right off entering and it's such a pity fourballs and even singles are not more common as even if playing well they're a big time commitment to play half a game. If I wanted to play half a game I'd prefer to just play 9 holes and be done in half the time.

FTLOG man up and play the foursomes.
Seriously though if you don't appreciate the nervous drama and excitement thown up by playing foursomes (especially by higher handicappers in interclub matches) you're massively missing out, it's not meant to be easy, it's a serious test and what could be more exciting then seeing fellas bricking it on the first tee in Purcell and Bruen and then later on in the match been the hero for stitching a wedge or sinking the winning putt.

I like playing foursomes now and again. We'd only have a couple of events a year like that but it's a different way of playing the game.

Foursomes are not half a game, they are a completely different and separate set of challenges with two skill sets per side and with a lot of extra options and strategies involved in having an effective team. In my view it is a format that is best enjoyed by thoughtfull and experienced golfers who have a clear vision of their partners and their own strengths and failings and a clear understanding of how they can best maximise their scores.

I like the inter club foursomes etc but I never play in the club foursomes qualifier anymore for one reason only. And that is trying to get 4 fellas together for a match is a nightmare. If you are drawn against two auld codgers for example, they will want to play during the day on a weekday. Other fellas are working away from home and can only play on a sunday morning when I would usually play in the singles comp etc etc.

Singles matchplay is not so bad but that is my problem with club foursomes. I actually really like the format though
