Emotional Eating

    Hi there,

Okay so I've pinpointed why I overeat.......
    1-2 binges per month

I've gone to counselling, talked about these issues (not the over eating part-too difficult-the shame of it etc)

The issues are not resolved but I'm getting there.......I suppose

I'm not overweight, I'm so into my fitness but when this happens-it sets me back a few days physically and emotionally- so frustrating! I eat v healthily but dive into chocolate &whatever when this occurs (which I do not normally eat)
It usually happens on a Friday night so I try to always be out and about mediating or cinema.

    I know I'm filling a void.
Probably loneliness-I have always felt exceedingly lonely since I was a child but I'm so used to it and can handle it relatively most of the time.
Could also be the continual fear/lack of intimacy

    The Qs
So now I have pinpointed my issues as to why I over eat, what next?
Surely it's not until these issues will be resolved that my overeating will be resolved?

I go to a psycho sex therapist. Should I mention it to him?
(I'd dread that as I'd rather talk about anything to do with sex than binging on food)
What can I do to minimize over eating?

Thanks, any input would be great.
    S

    Hi S,

We are not allowed to give advice as far as therapy etc. goes.

However, I would suggest checking out the Bodywhys website. They have a helpline which you can call on 1890 200 444. It's open 6 days a week for two hours every day. Tonight (wednesday) at 7;30 - 9:30, Thursday 10.30am - 12.30, Friday 10.30am to 12.30, Sunday and Monday 7.30pm - 9.30pm and Tueday 10.30 - 12.30.

You can e-mail them either to talk to a volunteer at alex@bodywhys.ie.

    Best of luck!

    Cheers for the response,
I've looked at the website and they facilitate low cost counselling which helps
