    Hi all,

I have 1.6 Petrol Megane. It seems to be dropping power for a few seconds and then picking up again. It is a 07 car but I have only had it since September. Was only dropping in power after car had been driving for over an hour/long journeys but now its doing it two or three times a day, even on short journeys. Had a incident 2 weeks after I got it when the coil pack decided to give up on a trip to Belfast. Two of the four coils where replaced in the garage. Anyone any thoughts or had experience like this???

I was thinking the same, but the guy in the garage I went to today wasn't sure. I am trying to find a new garage to fix this car as my last garage made a mess of my last car. Am afraid of being riped off like I was last time.

If you could get someone to test them first with a pack from another megane? I know this might not be feasible.

Greyfoot, Rip off was, a few years ago a Peugeot garage pulled the wool over my eyes before and charged me a fortune. Brought it in to get a clutch change and got car back with no coolant in it cause it was all over the driver footwell. Cost a bomb to fix it and it was never right after that.

Might get them in motor factors myself and change them (me da showed me how to change them for future ref) Just don't want to change them if thats not the problem. 35 Euro each!

If you know how to change them, then you can diagnose them.

With the engine running, disconnect one of the coils. If there is no change to the running of the engine, that's a banjaxed coil and should be replaced.

If the engine starts to sound even worse, or cuts out, that's a good coil and doesn't need replacing.

This was how my mechanic diagnosed the first coil gone on my Octavia, and how I diagnosed subsequent failures.

Thanks for that R.O.R, will check them tomorrow after work. Done a bit of digging around on google, a dying fuel pump may also be the cause of this problem.

Just home from the garage, only problem showing up on the garage computer is 'Camshaft Sensor'.
