Does anyone know what year those god awful import plates start, the ones with really high numbers? I'm looking at a few 2003-2004 UK cars - if I import one will it have a ridiculously high reg number (ie. 04-D-125798)?

If so, is it still possible to buy an low numbered plate for the year (ie. 03-D-250)? I remember they used to keep a few low numbers reserved but not sure if they're still available?

If you register it in Dublin, yes - you will have xx-D-12xxxx number.

    It is.
    It costs only €1000.

AFAIK any car before 2011 will have the 120000+number (for D reg's), they brought in a new system in 2011, so 2011 (or newer) cars imported in 2011 or after would just get the next number in sequence, but 2010 cars or older get the next number in the artificially-seeded list.

My parents imported a 2013 Mazda 3 from the UK last year. Reg is 131-D-43XXX. I'n not sure how/why.
