Looking for a bmw Indy in the mullingar area. Bought a 00 318 and its making a chirping squealing noise. Airbag light came on yesterday. Steering seems to have a lot of play. And I cant find the obd2 port. Cant afford a dealer.

could be the water pump belt? It knocked out my power steering when it failed on my 2000 318 a few years ago. Get the mechanic to reset airbag light, could just be a one off fault, if not, the seat occupancy sensor is a probable culprit... I dont know anyone in Mullingar, George Dalton is Laois or Valdas motor confidence (bmw specialist in Dublin) would be two recommendations though... To be honest, I would want the whole thing properly checked out by a specialist with diagnostics and a ramp, if the thing is a write off to put it right, better off finding out now, that fixing one thing now before god knows what else fails... Cooling systems on these are a weak point, they go through bushings, engine gaskets at this age are probably leaking, could be effected by the subframe issue. God knows what else.

Is the car blue with grey fabric interior by any chance?

Thanks batterim. I will take it in for a full checkup. Sounds like the safest approach.

As Idbatterim said, the noise is very likely to be the belt. Had this issue on 2 Beemers before. OBD2 port is above the pedals on that model if I remember correctly. Look on panel under steering wheel to the left of the bonnet release

I seem to remember it going fairly quickly after the squeaking started i.e a matter of days, get it sorted asap before it knocks something else out or does more damage IMO. But not after having the entire thing thoroughly checked to see if more work needs to be done, in which case it may not make economic sense to repair...

I finally got the car checked out. A new waterpump/belt, brake pads, wheel alignment and fluid flush and change. Its running like a dream now. Should get a couple of years out of it :)

I recommend a polish chap who has a unit in Lynn business park. He is across from top part and Norma Jeans. V good and v reasonable.
