If I could drive the ball as well as Parlance I would be a single figure golfer! Must have been a serious drive to be 15 yards further than one you flushed. The suspense on who won is killing me and I'm not even in the country! What did scubapro shoot?

34 - I hope he doesnt mind me saying but after 12 holes, he had this in the bag and then he just seemed to tense up and it slipped away from him. Was a pity, because he played excellently for the first 12 holes and that second shot into the 9th was just incredible!

Watch this space for the next outing, I think he's going to blitz it! Like Rory did the US Open after he blew the Masters ;)

So who took home the bragging rights lads?

Golfgraffix (39) was the leader in the clubhouse when I left, there were still a few more to come.

Mid table obscurity for me with 31 I'd say.

I thanked that BallyK, but it could be considered a damming post on my own short game.... The truth hurts :)

Also, big thank you to Scubapro, Denisoc and Parlance for the game today. We had great laughs all the way around and it was a pleasure to play with you all :)

Same as Rik, pleasure to met and play with Denisoc as well. Scuba... I see more of you than I see my wife these days, win is around the corner.

Moment of the day had to be on the 17th tee.
Let's just say there were a few tired swings after creeping in and the grunts were being thrown out:
Scuba: "it's like the set of a porno here lads" :)

Someone pointed out that it was him that had started it 5 holes ago ;)

great day out today and really enjoyed the company of the lads.
Macker1 won today with 41 and i had the pleasure of watching him play,
He had 23 on the front nine and 18 back. Serious putting.
I had 35 for 3rd place and couldnt buy a putt.

Had an absolute shocker today. Great course , nice sunshine just no swing. Thanks Fixde, golfgraffix and Dave for game. Golfgraffix played some great golf and was unlucky to get pipped for the win. Excellent birdie on 17. Fix played great as well, just couldn't send the ball home on the greens. 41 won it I think

Longest Drive is only for people who have anger management issues or course management issues :)

Well done - should have taken the 4 iron. ;)

Seriously thinking about the logic of driving halfway across the country to play conservative golf and have 28 pts - revolution of the brain needed. Awful day around the greens.

Only good thing is it didn't deminish my enjoyment of the day out - class spot - if a bit soft. Last parkland I played was with boards too. Back spin on drives :)

I was playing with a human today - Dave - he is not on here (I think) - nice lad, won nearest the pin with a cracker. 191 cm.
Hurling grip too. Ball for nearest the pin was half a ball deep in green :)

Only thing is, he mentioned - Padraig Harrington on the 10th tee - I told him we don't talk about him in the real world - golf clubs could start flying :D

Yep, similar to the jean van de velde capitulation :), not to worry still points on the board for the ryder jug. The course was fantastic well worth the trip, I would love to see it in bloom during the summer, thanks to the lads for listening to my groans although I do recall there was a chorus of groans on the 17th which incidentally did sound like the audio from a low budget german porn flick, although let me state categorically that I have never watched a german one:) fair play lads, Roll on carlow.

I'd say people are sick of "me" write ups - so I'll keep it short and left, like my putts.

So driving out of Portumna - I was there - ok, how do you get to Dublin, I drove down roads - I know for a fact, I never will again. I like roads less travelled. I started thinking about Kevin Markham on here - it was an insane thing to do , when you see that some of the courses across the country , are literally in places you rarely have a need to go to. Some are not close to the main routes at all. Even on Google Earth. :)

It is a bit of a cliché, to say, great day and great company - but it is a cliché for a reason. Great to know a bunch of golf nuts, who would literally drive across the country for a game. It is also nice - if a bit tricky to do, that people are getting to know each other a little better - that in real life, we are not as bad as we seem online :p - or in real life , if the alternative suits.

J - had a stormer - a real lesson for Dave, 3 Putt and myself , how you put together a score on a course - a great sort of punched drive / stinger, great chipping and most importantly - purposeful confidence. Also, his long stuff from 180 to 220 yrds , is as good as you will see.

On 17 - We ended up in same spot about 184 yards - I think to pin.

John hits one of his best ever 4 irons - perfectly left of the pin and using wind to drift onto pin. Class shot. I hit a perfect 5 iron over the pin just off back edge.

John - turns to me and says " I don't give a **** - I'm going to Birdie this hole" - I was thinking to myself - It would be class, if confidence like that worked. :)

I was just laughing as I walked off with a 6 and John hit a perfect putt - as he had said, into the hole never leaving the correct line . This wondrous game.

So, well done all again, particular to Charlie, who has always a smile and a welcome, places people at ease in an unusual situation. You need your golf more than ever now Charlie.

It is a big day out , requiring big commitment - but the rewards are always a great course - and brilliant and simultaneously tortured golfers. Who have the same desires , great days and bad ones like yourself.

Hope you all had a good day lads. I will get to one eventually :D

Really good day, have to say I love these boards outings, nice to play relaxing rounds on new courses.

I was quite surprised by how much I liked the course, some really nice holes an some very tricky and small greens. 12 was a fun hole, would love to see how the members play it. You could take 17 and drop it into Doral or Bay Hill and it wouldn't be out of place, a real strong 3 shotter of a par 5.

As always I enjoyed the company, great to play with guys I haven't played with before and of course as normal well organised.

Can't wait for Carlow, one of my top ten parkland courses in the country.

    J

Thanks for all the kind words lads, golf is like a therapy for me lately no matter how bad I play but thats a conversation for another day.

Thanks to all who travelled from near and far for another very enjoyable day out. Course lived up to its expectations thankfully and its one I'd be happy to play again.

We had some fantastic scores today today and as mentioned previously macker took top spot with a sensational 41 points. Golfgraffix took second and again, scrubber took third with another very consistent round. The top step is beckoning you.

As for my round, I'll save that for the how did you score thread as some of you like seeing some of the disasters as well as the good rounds!! Lets just say it was a bad time to introduce a swing change and my putter was so cold it'd be more at home in a pint bottle of bulmers!

Thanks all and see ye at the next outing.

Thanks for such an enjoyable day. Not sure what deal was struck with the devil but we got a good day of weather given how unlikely it had looked leading up to it. The course itself was a very nice track and I would like to echo what has already been said that the 17th must be one of the best holes I have ever played even though I chickened out and played very safe ending up with a 6.

As to be expected the Boards Golf Society provided another warm welcome and the company of my playing partners was second to none. Congrats to Scrubber72 on yet another solid performance. My apologies to the other two players in the four-ball I'm unable to mention your online usernames as I do not know them but suffice to say I look forward to meeting up again in Carlow.

    See you all in Carlow........

    12 was a fun hole

Was wishing we had put the longest drive on that hole. I was inside the 150m marker off the tee, passed the bell :D

(still stuffed up my 2nd shot though and only walked off with par :( )

Big thanks to all for such a great day, including my playing partners, Stevie, Tiger & phkk.
Gorgeous course I will definitely return to. 12th & 17th definitely the highlight holes.
    Looking forward to Carlow.

Well, a long day, left the house at about 10am, back home about 9pm...but well worth the travel.

Portumna is a lovely course, lots of strategically well placed trees, there were a few occasions where I felt Id hit a perfect tee shot only to find myself blocked off by a lone tree. It presented enough of a challenge without being overly penal.

Started well, par birdie & thought it would be a good day to come. Played well on the front, 20 points. Fell apart on the back, only 12 points in. Really struggled with pace on the greens, felt I had a good read on the line, but came up short more often than not.

Rarely took the driver our of the bag today, hybrid/3 wood was plenty most if the time. Golfgraffix, 12th for me was 6iron, 6 iron, 52 wedge pitch & 3 putts :(

Great company from Charlie, ssbob & Kieran today. Charlie, once you started swinging the driver hit a few crackers. Ssbob, as I said on the course, you do not swing the club like a 24 handicap, lovely swing, bit more consistency round the greens & the handicap will tumble. Kieran, just wasn't your day, you hit some cracking 3/4 woods on the back 9, but unfortunately if there was a tree that could be hit you managed to hit it.

I took measures on 3/4 holes for driving distance, wrote the details on the back of Ssbob's card Charlie, though you might not be able to read my scrawl!!

Was a pleasure to get out & play my first boards outing, hopefully the first of many.

another great outing, and as usual great company so thanks shane007, phkk & tigerwood for an enjoyable round. and of course thanks to Charlie and all the organisers

my golf was below average today with exception of the 6th, putting for eagle but settled for birdie, which was great because i think i took more putts out there today than the rest of you put together!!

i've played some great golf courses and lovely holes through the years but without question, doubt or hesitation, the 17th today goes easily into the top ten...... no the top 5 actually. It has everything, length, difficulty, trees, water, Ducks (who like nature valley bars), and my god it is an unbelievably scenic golf hole when you see its beauty as you get to the top of the hill, and that was on a dull day, imagine what it is like on a nice summers afternoon.... Anyone putting together the best 18 holes in the country, couldn't but include this hole. If I'm honest with myself, it's quite probably the best hole I've ever played

Thanks for a great day Charlie and really enjoyable round with Stevie, Tiger Wood and Shane007. Great course and some fantastic holes. Had 29pts, 18 out with a poor return of 11 on the back. I scratched 17 after going into the water. There I was on the 17th tee box answering a question:"Have any of you lost a ball today?" "No" said I,"not yet"! And dutifully put it in water! Grrrrr
One of my highlights was Shane hit a lovely 2nd shot into 9 and it landed just off the green, literally between two ducks who did not flinch-they were sitting admiring the Boards golfers passing through but if I can remember correctly, I think they were asleep by the time we got up to them! Huge effort to make the trip to everyone who played. Looking forward to Carlow

I would prefer to put it as my short game being the strongest part of my game but driving having been a bit dodgy. The last times I played with you you were booming drives 30-40 yards past me and right down the hitting the fairway nearly every time.

That was an off day for me :) it's normally 50/50 whether it's fairway or trouble.... But we could be a good combo for the Ryder Jug if the captains listening :)

We have to qualify first! :D

I have zero points to my name after missing the first two outings so will have to make a big effort to attend the rest of the events. At least you have some points on the board.

Scrubber has a good story about a certain golfer on 17 - Scub.........................

Rory was 14 playing there. Hit 5 iron second shot. Ah sure he has to be laying up.......no stitched it.

    AT 14...

While were talking about fantastic shots.
Special mention to Denisoc on 12.

3 off the tee on the Par 5 12th and he walked away with 5. Class.
    Would have been some eagle.

Clipped the last of the trees on the agressive line from the tee leaving him a long 4th. He hit an absolute peach of a 5 wood to a couple of feet, maybe less, just a little more than a tap in.
