    Hey all,

Lost the oil filler cap from my 98 Toyota starlet. Does anyone know where in galway I could get a replacement?

Not sure if there is such a thing as a generic oil filler cap or if I have to get a model specific one...

Your local Toyota dealer will have one. I wouldn't drive it with no cap or you will have oil sprayed all over the engine.

Try a breakers in your local area, might get lucky. There's plenty on ebay, but I'm sure you can't be waiting a few days for one to come off that. Nevertheless http://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313&_nkw=starlet+oil+cap&_sacat=0&_from=R40

You can get generic ones in most petrol garages. They just push in. Will do, until you locate the correct one.

That's for your fuel tank - not for the oil filler.

My apologies if that's the case. I've never seen them and cant see how'd a push in cap would work all that well as an oil cap.

Anyway, those caps should be available from any Toyota garage or breakers.

Not only that but the vacuum created when driving is enough to suck in a whole load of crap from your engine bay which you don't want going into the engine.

Reminds me of an internet story a few years ago of a guy that used a sock as a temporary measure on his M3 which ended up in disaster. :D

I wouldn't drive it at all until I got it replaced.

You should have no trouble getting a replacement, just walk in and ask for a 710 cap.

thanks all, i have ordered a replacement from burkes garage. Will have it tomorrow. Thanks for all the suggestions :)

Now next problem is, there is oil all over the engine... :( Where in Galway cleans that off? I asked Burkes but they said that due to water regs in the city, they cant do it.

I thought that as well but was told that I wouldn't be able to clean the belts and around the electrics and that with oil being corrosive, it was only a matter of time before they are destroyed :(
