    Hi there

I am due to do my NCT shortly.

I have a drivers licence, tax, insurance disc and cert.

    I don't have my log book - I can't find it - careless I know.

Will they still NCT my car without the log book?

    Thanks

    Depends where your NCT is.
I was in Deansgrange last week, brought my logbook and they never asked to see it.
They just wanted to see my licence.

They did not ask my for the licence just log book. I see everywhere is different or depends on cashier mood.

Same in Fonthill - which is where my test is.

My friend has been going there for the past 4 years and says she has never been asked for log book. I don't recall having the log book last year when I went there either. Knowing my luck it will be the one time I am asked though.

If I have paid for the test and turn up and they can't do it because of lack of log book, do I lose my €55?

    Thanks

Don't envy you going there with that uber cranky car-park attendant either.
Not sure if you'd lose your money if you showed up without the book, but I know if they requested the logbook and you didn't have it, they would turn you away.

They can still test the car but not give you the disc until you provide the book, which is good to have anyway so find it or get a replacement..

Once your car is on the system there is not a need to provide the log book

You are supposed to bring it every time. Places like Ballymun won't even test without it, another boardsie was turned away.
You might get lucky and they won't ask for it but why chance it.

Yeah, good point about needing it anyway biko. Have booked the test anyway and have given myself enough time to get the replacement anyway.

    Thanks to all

€12 in your local tax office for a replacement, you'll have it within 5 days

What is it with that person, come across them a few times, cant even understand how he still has the job, assuming its the same person I came across. (edit, I saw the person I came across in another test centre too).

Nearly made a complaint, but guessing it'd go nowhere, as he was bordering on abusive and I was trying to get my son out of the car along with car seat and he was giving me guff.

They barely look at it, its not like they are comparing any details to the car, like VIN number stampings, even the address could be wrong.
Not sure why its needed once its on the system, first time maybe.

Had my test in ballymun 2 weeks ago. I was unable to locate the log book and went up to chance it.

The guy before me had left his log book in the counter and the guy assumed it was mine. I paid up and walked away. He mentioned the log book sitting on the counter. I told him it was not mine and kept walking.

The car (as expected) fail. I've since got a replacement log book.

The form is online. All you need to do is fill it in, get a guard to sign it, get a postal order for €12 and post it into your local office. Simples!!!!!!!

    here it is

I tested mine in Blarney last week with no log book only a passport and it was no bother plus I was over an hour late, what a sound bunch..

Yeah that's cool, I have a copy of form and all, thanks.

I know the attendant, he's unbelievable! Scarier having to face him than to anticipate a fail!

I have brought literally hundreds of cars for NCT over the years and have never once been asked for the log book.

Bring a brown A5 sized envelope thst you normally receive government issued docs and have it in your hand, they may assume from it that you have it in that and not ask.
