I'm looking to go on a fishing holiday later this year and was wondering if anyone here has fly fished in mainland Europe? I fished in Slovenia before and found it brilliant although it was'tn cheap.

Has anyone fly fished elsewhere in Europe, I looking at somewhere relatively cheap that has decent sized game fish.

The west of Ireland indeed, so where do you suggest, Lough Inagh, Fee, Derrylea?

Spain is supposed to have massive wild brownies.
And you could always stop off on the river Ebro for some big cats :)
Have to go there eventually. But still have my eyes set on the salmon run on the frazer in canada eh

For the last three years I've gone to Norway for a weeks fishing. I go to kvennan camping near tynset , on the river glomma. Its at the edge of the river. This is the spot where Hans van Klinken invented the klinkhamer. The grayling are fairly big, and good fighters . The trout are not as plentiful but are bigger than what I catch at home on my local river. I rent a 2man cabin at the campsite for 28 euro per night. Ryanair flight was 108 , train was 66 euro and fishing licence was 120 for the week. I spend about 50 on food in the supermarket in Oslo and cook in the cabin. Almost everyone on the campsite is a flyfisher and in the evenings all the talk around the campfires is about fishing. The common language there is English because everybody there is from different countries. Look up www.kvennanflyfishing.com . Its a different type of fishing holiday than one in Ireland but very enjoyable. I've managed to keep the cost of a week to 500 euro which isn't bad for what you get. The river is wadeable and up to 160 meres wide.. If you are a river fly fisherman you'll pick up a lot of information here. I've met people here from all over Europe and managed to improve my fishing by talking on the riverbank and fishing with them.

There are no salmon due to the hydro stations further downstream .

    Hi dody,

Thanks for that, Norway has always interested me but I dismissed it as too expensive.
500 all in for what you describe sounds quite reasonable though.

    I'll look into it more.

    Cheers again!
