Has anyone else noticed this happening there phones lately?

Its using between 40 and 50 percent of my battery, even with no apps running.

If so have yet found any solutions to the problem?

Turn off automatic updates or syncing!

My GPS kept turning itself on even though I had all of the location options turned off, the bloody thing would sap my battery down completely in minutes.
I got peed off and restored to factory reset.
Then my phone was barely lasting a day on a full charge (previous to this I'd fet well over the 36 hr mark easily, provided I spotted that Location had turned itself on and I would quickly switch it off! :pac: )
So I've factory reset again, and now...I wait..

Ya. To find your phone or its ever lost or stolen.

It turns on the GPS when you power on your phone.

I've just disabled play services, hope that solves it. Now I'm just wondering how that will affect the phone?

Would it stop the automatic updates from coming through I wonder.
One thing I've noticed since doing a factory reset, I've a ton of apps I never use!:D

I just love the Note II. The battery life is so good. I never have to turn things off or keep checking whats using the battery. I charge it every night and there is loads left at night.

gps has to be turned on for cerebus to function, otherwise its useless. to the op, you could try clearing the cache in the google services. go to manage apps-google play (or services, cant remember) then clear cache.this might help.

If you're on Kitkat (Android 4.4), there was an update to Google Play Services recently that fixed battery drain.

That article is mainly about 4.1 Play Services, 4.2.42 is out now, and it incorporates Chromecast API's needed to allow apps cast content.....to Chromecast or Smart TV, Roku, etc.

The Allcast app is utilising this now in relation to casting to Chromecast.....and other apps are being modified to take account of the opportunities.

    things are moving at speed!!!

Google Cast SDK Gets Final Release As Play Services 4.2 Is Rolled Out To All Devices – Prepare For The Flood Of Chromecast Apps

I have not noticed any battery drain issues, either on Moto G or Nexus 7, both on Kit Kat.

Battery stats from Nexus shown attached pic.

I noticed "Mediaserver" was knocking a hell of a lot out of my battery. I googled to see what the craic was, and I'm not the only one it seems.
So I cleared the partitions and restored to factory settings.
I've only put on a very few apps since, and checked the battery each time.
    So far, no more Mediaserver.
Whatever it was it appears to now be gone.

Usually corrupt picture or other media files on your SD.....here is a little app which could help, not fix the problem, but turn off media scanner.

Also, some SD scanners don't work for KitKat, this one does:

Its good to do rescans after adding new media.
