TAX on LEVY TAX

    Good day.

In the back of my mind has always been the idea that Tax on a Tax is not lawful. Maybe this applied to another country and not to Ireland and as I am of the elder generation may be getting the countries mixed up. But I still think its inherently unfair for a government to do this. Any information or thoughts ??
Recently Electric Ireland put their rates up by 13.5% but claimed it was only 1.7%. At least thats what I worked out from the document I received. My maths may not be the best but I have asked them 3 times to expain and they have fobbed me off each time which leads me to conclude I am right.
But a separate issue is the Levy Tax which also rises by 13.5% which in itself is unreasonable in this day and age. But to TaX people upon that Levy Tax is even more unreasonable to my mind. Comments please.

In my opinion , it is unreasonable and unfair . But it is lawful.

Just look at the recent carbon tax on coal , you pay this carbon tax and on top of that you pay vat 13.5%

It is simply another way of the Government keeping the vat rates low and then adding a levy .
