I always think those that only use  to get their point across, are either lazy or have a poor command of the English language.

That said, I probably have done the same myself at some stage:pac:

This thread started out with a question - and the op has received an answer to same, from both posters and the dept. What the poster can now do is make a complaint ( through the agreed procedures ) and see where that gets them or do nothing.

Let us know what you decide to do - either way.

We don't take kindly in these parts to people re-registering to back themselves up in an argument.

Unfortunately, questions on this (teaching in particular) forum are rarely as innocent as they first appear to be. There's a certain element of society who believe that teachers sit around smirking at the 'short' days and holidays they get and that they organise half days for themselves on a whim. It goes without saying that anything that a teacher does is magnified a thousand times by the time the children from the class reach home that day. And often magnified erroneously.

With teachers subjected to what can amount to 30 miniature inspectors in the classroom, parents need not worry on a general level whether teachers are working up to standard. Teachers are all too aware that daily you have thirty pairs of eyes and ears, and sixty pairs of eyes and ears at home to contend with as part of their job, and so act accordingly. It follows that teachers do not take half days coming up to holidays just for the hell of it, because if you do, you have the possibility of having sixty people on your back complaining. Teachers also don't have the authority to take a half day on a whim.

Listening to people complain because I've 'decided' to take a a half day for the hell of it vs work full day, no people complaining? Absolutely no contest there.

Are you telling me that a school should offer these benefits in exchange for missing a day and a half school time, as my school does not?

No, not an exchange. I was just pointingout that in the community where I work there is a small little thing called“goodwill” whereby a lot of parents recognise the various things I mentionedwhere teachers “give” a little extra and in turn there is no great fuss overthe half days. Of course you are correct re 183 days being the minimum and afew parents get agitated about it, fair enough, but from my point of view thereare a lot of other things that I would like parents to get agitated about thatmight actually have a positive impact on their children’s education in thiscountry and I'm speaking as both parent and teacher in that. Over and out!!
PS Up to parents to form a parents council, school will give you every assistance I'm sure. Guidelines from NPC.

And there I was putting together a response to Papersomethingorothers eloquent posting (NOT), thanks for saving me the time. If he/she is having to back themselves up I think we can draw things to a close.

I agree. This one has been asked and answered as far as I can see.
Contact the BOM or DES if there is an issue with a school.
