Insurance Query

    Hi there,
not sure if this is the best place to post this, or where...?!
Anyway, I had a single car incident last week. It was pretty minor although the front tyres on my car are completely fooked and apparently the clutch box too. Anyway, in speaking with my insurance company it came up about my NCT and it expired during the year... This is a hiccup as they are saying they can't confirm the claim until their assessor looks at the car and deems it roadworthy or not. On top of this I got 2 penalty points a couple of months ago but never thought to report it to my insurance co. I thought I just do that at time of renewal. Somebody I spoke to today said, no I should have declared it immediately....!
Given that there is no other car/company for my insurance to claim from, I'm wondering what are the chances of the insurance company doing their best not to pay out??? Does anyone have any experience with this? This is my first time to make any kind of claim on any insurance.... (I really screwed myself over on this one though!!! )

I'm so stressed over this but trying not to think about it too much!!

Oh and, my colleague told me today that her brother is a mechanic and his friend owns a body shop. Would it be worth me sending them out to have a look at my car?? Or is there little can be done if insurance deem it unroadworthy (which they shouldn't as it's an 07 Focus in good knick with 2 brand new front tyres!)

    Me again.....
Haven't gotten any replies to this, but I live in hope........ :D:D
Does anyone out there know anything about car insurance claims???? Anyone???

There has been little progress since I posted this as I still don't know if they are going to cover my claim or not. :(
The only update is that the car has been declared a write off and the valuers have put a value of €5,650 on the car.
There is an offer for salvage/scrapage of €1,835 on the table.
Can anyone help me out with what all this means. I don't really understand the position I'm in.
    Please, and thank you!! :)

What year or type of car is it?
Where did you get offered €1,850 for scrap?

OP, download the motor policy document from your insurance company's website, see what it says about a current NCT and/or reporting penalty points. Not having a current NCT doesn't itself invalidate insurance but if they find that the vehicle was unroadworthy, they could deny your claim under the fully comp (accidental damage) part of the policy. They would still be obliged to pay out for a third party claim but that doesn't seem to apply in this case.

My reading of those numbers is that they're saying your car was worth €5,650 before the accident and is now worth €1,835 as scrap/parts. Effectively that means that they will allow you to keep the car if you accept a settlement of the difference between those two numbers, otherwise they will sell the car for scrap and pay you €5,650 but only if they approve the claim.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you for that. She was talking to me on Friday about the salvage & the option to get it "economically repaired" and all of that but I really didn't follow and anyone I've spoke to since doesn't know much about all this stuff.... I'll have a read of the policy document tomorrow before I ring them.
At the very start the girl I spoke to explained that without the nct their assessor has to check the car & decide if it's roadworthy or not. I really don't see how it could be unroadworthy. It's in very good nick, has a full Ford service history.

Anyway, thanks again. Really appreciate your help. :)

Thanks again for the help.... :)

I just got advised by the insurance company that they are going to cover my claim. Massive sigh of relief.... :) Delighted.

Not sure how long this process will take but will start browsing cars now.
