Some friends and I will be doing the Harbour to Harbour walk on Paddy's day and we're trying to decide on a restaurant to go to afterward. The problem is that while most of us are steak loving carnivores one lady is a vegan. Is there anywhere in DL that can cater to all of us?

I was curious as to what kylith was talking about.. a quick Google.

Surprised it is only 16 miles, to be honest. I walk to Ikea from Killiney (via the coast, Dublin, Santry) once or twice a week and would have expected Howth to be a much longer trek.

It's long enough after you've walked it!

Killiney to Ikea though, what on earth possess you to walt that a couple of times a week? And tell me you don't walk home again!

Hi, first of all, good luck on doing the walk ! hopefully it will dry and reasonably warm (the last few years haven't been too bad.

You could try Purple Ocean at Dun Laoghaire Harbour but I'm not sure if they'll be open. Toscanas is another option and there's also the Purty Kitchen.

Enjoy the walk, sorry for the thread distraction. Depression is the big 'unsaid' in our society.

..part of my weight dumping/toning regimen. I got 'bored' after I decided to dump public transport and start walking into Dublin for my needs. (2 hours 15 minutes) I wanted to go to Ikea one day and decided to keep walking.. after I checked how close Ikea was to Santry Avenue, I decided to give it a go.

Eerily, I put the journey into my phone and it suggested four hours and ten minutes, which is what I've been hitting, on the head, give or take two minutes!

I take the 4 home (well, close to home, after some walking..), using a Leap card, which caps the cost of the day at €2.50.

Fyi Howth from the middle of the promenade to the GPO is exactly 9 miles. There's mileposts all the way (via Killester). Wonder if there are similar mileposts to DL as they were associated with the mail packet routes iirc.

    Eg.

Rasam in Glasthule might be an option?

They look like they'd be great, but unfortunately not open early enough.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, I know it's a tricky one; everywhere does a vegetarian option but I'd imagine that very few do a vegan option.

Mao might be an option, hadn't thought of that. Also Gilbert and Wrights pub will apparently allow you to bring in take-away from Camille Thai across the road, the food in Camille is superb.

The Sunshine Cafe is on Georges St., a few doors down from the main entrance to St. Michaels Hospital on the Monkstown/Blackrock side, it's painted a bright yellow and there's always a few small tables outside for the smokers so you can't miss it. Food is excellent and the boss lady is always there so service is good. Check out their menu here...

    There's one at Booterstown - https://www.google.com/maps/@53.310203,-6.198689,3a,75y,32.36h,62.28t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1stTGNNX-y611T0KbHL44wRg!2e0!6m1!1e1

I have a feeling that there's one somewhere around about Monkstown Avenue too, but I can't think where.

Back in the day Seapoint Avenue didn't actually make it all the way to Dun Laoghaire and Monkstown Avenue was the main route to DL/KT. Seapoint Avenue used to only stretch from the Blackrock end to around the Martello Tower. The remaining parts towards DL were peoples gardens. I bet they loved it when the railway came through and cut off their sea access.

Weafer and Cooper have a pretty varied menu and also do pizzas so you'll definitely be able to suit everyone.

People are mentioning places that probably have vegetarian options but the person is vegan, so you might want to email or ring any place to confirm it does vegan stuff.

You might find places mentioned in the vegan forum.

The cheese on pizza means it is often not suitable for even vegetarians as it can contain animal stomach.

Don't worry, I'm forwarding everything on to the vegan so that she can check them out for herself, I've also asked in the V&V forum and have gotten some suggestions from them too.

Thanks for all the help folks!
