Citroen SOS Service - how to enable?

    HI,

I've recently purchased a 2012 Citroen DS5 - it has two buttons in the roof one with SOS and one with a Citroen logo. I understand from reading online that one is to call a breakdown service and the SOS one is in case of a crash. My dealer said that this service is not available in Ireland but it appears on the Citroen data sheets so I'm not convinced.

I'm still waiting for the car manual (original was lost) but I wanted to see if anyone had experience with this service and can point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance
    YB

Just because the buttons are there, doesn't mean the module is. Basically its connected to a SIM card and calls a number with additional GPS info. I sincerely doubt the car has the module in place and I doubt even more its available in Ireland, especially given what the dealer said. In either case, its no great advantage in my opinion.

    From my reading here: http://www.citroen.fr/service/appel-urgence-localise/

Its certainly not available in Ireland, its coverage is mainland Europe by the looks of things.

Had a similar system in my old BMW, the service definitely wasn't available in Ireland at the time.

so about this SOS thing not being enabled.:confused::confused:

I was driving home today, stuck in traffic and I decided to press and hold the Citroen button - after 3 or 4 seconds, the radio goes silent and this voice saying "Calling Emergency Service" pipes up  I release the button and press it again and the radio came back on. Didn't hear anymore strange messages so I decided to carry on my commute

Think I'll wait for the manual to arrive :P

If you have a phone connected to the car, or if the car has its own phone, even with no SIM card, pressing SOS will dial 999. Got a serious scolding from the operator a few weeks back when I pressed mine to see what would happen. There's a reason it's behind a fighter jet-style flip down cover, so idiots like me don't press it!

no flip cover on mine - just two buttons on the ceiling. I was sensible enough to press the black one and not the Red one. :D

    +1
Took me a few months too gather the courage/stupidity to press it and see what happened. Nothing was the answer!
