Would that qualify for classic insurance/tax?

Nah vintage tax is for vehicles 30 years+.

Not sure about insurance, age requirement might be less and you might need to register with some sort of club...I'm really not sure.

The Clio Williams is probably your best bet Scooters. Much better build quality and reliability and driveability compared to the R5 turbo. Plus it was rarer. That said some sellers seem to think even a complete dog of a Williams is worth many thousands. Avoid. BTW if you do get an R5 Turbo, I've a stack of spares for same in my shed, inc interior, bodykit, and various oily bits and bobs so... :D

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I had a dark Grey R5 Turbo myself at at one stage had enough spares to build 3 complete cars too lol. sold them all of to the 1 guy when I needed the space/cash.:o

Have you tried an ad on frenchcarsireland forum? pick up some bargains sometimes;) if i were you Id go for a Williams or 172 RS..

That 5 looks original Irish, or old import, but it's missing it's side decals and I don't think them clocks are Irish or uk spec (could be wrong though)

it looks lovely alright but it must be an import (uk my guess )with a dublin reg that high in 1988....I used to have a book when I worked in Insurance companies with the final regirstration figures for each year and county but i mislaid it somewhere:D

:D I know. If you stockpile spares it kinda tells ya all you need to know about the car really. They were great fun though, if not exactly well bolted together. Scary on the limit of grip though. Little warning before you were going backwards into the shrubbery. On fire. That might have been just mine though, as it had a lot of non standard parts from the short lived racing series of the model in the UK(Andrew Ridgely one half of 80's popsters Wham! drove and crashed one in the series). Lowered and uprated suspension, heftier clutch, bigger turbo, thicker steel head gasket, bigger ally intercooler(the standard part had a habit of blowing the end caps off, even if running standard boost). It was scarily quick, like spin the wheels in third quick. In the dry. Huge lag though.

I dunno S, looks very familiar to mine and I broke an immaculate French LHD and it had the same clocks AFAIR. They're in the shed too. Had a look this morning and realised I've nearly the makings of a bloody whole car. Doors, boot, bonnet, bodykit, two engines(block and head anyway), full interior too from what I can see. A big shed and a man with a hoarding instinct is a baaaaad combination. :o:pac:

Ahh now you're talking. The rear engined one. Mad looking yoke, early ones came with the coolest dashboard. Real barbarella type vibe. French futuristic.

How wonderfully French can you get? :)

OHMIGOD, if you ever get the chance to pedal one of them take it, but take it very handy around bends(an uncle of mine had one. Only one here IIRC). Those damn things are only a couple of inches longer than they are wide and make a 1970's 911 look positively benign in oversteer. Yer man in the video Ragnotti was well known for being one of the few nutcases that could handle those cars on the limit. TBH I dunno how they got the racing harnesses around his balls. IIRC they wheeled him out to demonstrate the Clio V6 rear engined job when it came out and a few journos pointed out don't try this at home folks. I remember seeing one of those Clios around south Dublin back in the day. Young enough lad driving it too. Wonder where it went?

I'd give my left nut to own one of the earlier Turbo 2's. Ah well, my empty bank account laughs at me. Probably safer for other road users. :) I've been informed by French folks that there are still quite a lot of them knocking around on French roads and a mate who holidays there said similar. *keeps doing the lotto* :D

PS just looking at UK prices for the front engined 5 turbo and it looks like prices are higher there. Might be time to pick up a bargain(and build a spares collection:D).

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

The maxi turbo. 360bhp from a 1.4 pushrod engine.
How they lasted more than a few hundred meters of a rally stage I'll never know...

Hi, I have a Williams f7r turbo set up with wossner pistons and rods and I'm looking to sell it, it's in a 1.8 16v shell which I did nearly finish turning into a maxi, the engine has only done 500 miles since rebuild.

Those r5 turbos used to look so knackery. Now they have gone full circle and are looking cool again
