Was that the one where you beat most of the women and some guy on a zimmer frame?

No. It was the one where he was the only one in his cat ...and he came second!

3rd place and Premier Master (and a nice trophy to go with it thanks to Cuchulainn CC)

Was a good race last year (no crashes, too), one for the sprinters to battle it out. Hopefully the weather will be nicer though. And great stuff on the separate races, the handicapped bunch finish sprint was a bit too big.

I believe some of the Swords A4 contingent got some points. There will be a glut of them in A3 in a few weeks.

Big crash in the A4 finish, some nasty breakages I believe, didn't see it myself, I wish all involved a speedy recovery. The weather looked utterly dismal as we got ready, but fortunately within about 10km the rain subsided and the sun even made an appearance. Really well run event, big thanks to Cuchulainn CC for putting it on. Snagged my first A4 point taking 8th place in the reduced sprint. Roll on next weekend.

Great race Cuchulainn! I rode the A4. It was miserable-baltic on the start line, but once we got going, soon forgot about it.
The Newry brake away was Tony Martin-esque! He must have been out there for over an hour. Chapeau! Not so subtly covered by his teammates who went up the front and sat-up on the way back into Ardee. Good tactics.
Speed coming into the finish was fast. I was at the tail-end of the bunch coming into the last 500m. I began to ease up as I thought there might be a tumble on the cards. I saw them go down in front of me, no idea what the cause was. I did my best to avoid the pile up, but ploughed into an Orwell rider on the left of the pile up and bounced into the hedge. Sorry, for that, but I had no chance to avoid you.

Well organized and marshalled race. A4 group seemed fairly well behaved and courteous on the whole and seemed fairly safe. Had fun and tried a few attacks which turned out to be futile. Opted out of the sprint few a couple of KM to go as knew I just didn't have the power to contend. Right decision for me - came across bodies on the road spread from one hedge to the other with about 600m to go. Heard something about handlebars getting tangled and saw a wheel with every spoke broken. Saw one arm in a sling (guy from the lone break?) and another body taken off on a stretcher (with sling and neck brace) and someone else with a banged up knee. Hope all aren't too badly hurt.

A4 race as you said was very well behaved. It was a nasty accident near the finish and happened well up near the front taking out over half the bunch. Newry rider(solo breakaway) and one other with suspected fractured collarbones and some others with lacerations and some very damaged bikes.

A4 crash looked nasty. Apparently caused by some lad who the comissares had been on the verge of pulling from the race - He had been swinging at the back of the bunch, tried to move up, blew up, and caused a crash. Pity

I had a sufferfest of a day in the A3 race. Spent the first half of the race in no man's land with two Swords riders attempting to make it across to the break. We never made it, and when BMC shot past us, the added effort of attempting to get on his wheel meant that I blew up completely. Swallowed by the bunch shortly after the halfway mark, took a few turns at the front untill I could do no more, drifted to the back and eventually let the last wheel go at about the 60k mark. Rode the last 15k on my own happy with a good days work done

No worries dude I was that Orwell rider, obviously not your fault, and no harm done, wish I could say the same for the lads in the middle of the crash. Wishing them a speedy recovery. Overall a well run race, boy am I glad I sat up and left it to the racers only seconds before the crash. Thanks to Cuchullain CC for a great race.

How many started the A4 race?
Looking at the photos I would guess maybe 40 or so

As one Lucan CC rider described it, "It was like someone threw a hand grenade into the bunch". Really bad crash, bodies and bikes flying through the air, somehow braked enough and darted through a small gap to avoid it myself but the riders ahead of the carnage never lost any speed and opened too big a gap to close so end of my race. Wanted more from the race but getting home in one piece more than made up for it. I heard the particular rider who was alleged to have caused the crash being the same rider that many in A4 group were trying to avoid following due to erratic riding style to put it kindly. Do commissaries listen and act on riders complaints/worries about other riders behavior during races or do they have to witness it themselves?

They do listen, esp if you get the number as they write a report for each race for CI.

Great race from Cuchulainn, well done! I thought the A4 felt very safe throughout, but missed the crash at the end. The weather ended up being quite nice despite looking rough before we started! The pace was a bit up and down throughout, with a few people going, but the group didn't really react giving them much chance in the headwind. Me and the race winner had driven up together and planned to attack around the M1 flyover on the way home knowing it was flat and likely a tailwind home, but after we turned at Ardee he jumped away pretty quickly, the group gave a brief chase and then when they stalled I jumped and bridged across to him. We took 60-90 second turns and worked very well and seemed to maintain a decent gap. We agreed no funny business until 1km to go so when we hit that, he jumped and got a bike length, I got back on, then went past at 500m to go and hammered but could see his shadow so eased slightly and then from 150m out we were side by side to the line, very little in it and we had to go check the finish line camera but he just inched me out of the win! Was a great buzz to go off the front and thankfully the legs held it together to stay away! Only saw the crash afterwards, hope everyone involved is ok!

The one thing that stood out as being ridiculous is riders throwing away gel wrappers, I mean halfway through the race, just spinning, taking on food then chucking the wrappers, two lads from Comeragh Valley (?) did this in quick succession, insane.

Well done to you you and Michael, great move to take the top 2 places. I seen you go after Michael and was going to try bridge to you but you put in a massive dig I didn't think I could follow. Sorry couldn't chat for long at Clubhouse, the other Swordies where waiting for me.
