When checking in online do you have to do outbound and return flights seperate? Trying to check in here and its only letting me select the outbound flight and the return flight is greyd out.

You can't check-in that far in advance so you'll only be able to do it for the outbound flight. Make sure that you're within 30 hours of the flight or you'll have to pay for the seat selection, they send you a reminder a few days before the flight in the hope that you'll check-in early (>30 hours before the flight) in which case you will have to pay for the privilege of selecting your seat.

Where are you flying to? If it's Heathrow and a few other places, you can check-in at an automated kiosk in the airport instead of queuing at a desk, or you may be able to check-in from a mobile device a day or so before the return flight.

You can only check-in up to 30 days in advance if flying on selected routes.
The canary islands are not included on the route list.
You will have to check-in between 2 and 30 hours before your return flight.

...click on '30 day advance web check-in information' to see what routes allow this.
