By posting in both the Dublin and Galway forums. Are you hoping to compare answers?

Anyway, I would say it's up to you whether you make friends or not in either town.

Nop, just asked on both because couldn't find proper place to ask this.
Maybe a moderator you can move the thread to a proper place.

Yeah, I wouldn't say either place has a geographical or demographical advantage.
Dublin being bigger and with more "strangers" probably has more to offer for newcomers.

During my time in Ireland I have only ever lived in Galway, but I still say Dublin. Dublin has more people, more opportunities to meet people, it caters better to a wide variety of interests etc. I also think it's a little bit more open minded (my own humble impression). Meeting like minded people is a numbers game and Dublin's conveyor belt is just bigger.

    Its really 50-50 op.

I was in college in galway and have tons of friends from all over galway/Mayo/Limerick and Clare,Working in Dublin now and i know lots of people from home(Cavan) and former college mates who are also working over here, Also know alot of new people from work also.

It all depends on your social scene op,If you head out you will meet friends of friends and it builds from there.

    With or without benefits?

If you're looking for the former, then Galway's a smaller town if things go sour: You're more likely to run into them or their friends afterwards.

When I first read that, I thought you meant social welfare :pac:

    What is the context OP?

Are you picking a college? Have you been offered a job?

Galway is relatively small when it comes down to it - I would classify it as a bit cliquey.

    I know Galway only.

Just I have the option to get a job in Galway or Dublin and for me the social life and the number of friends counts a lot.

Also I find people in Galway very friendly, I wonder if in Dublin they would be more closed...

I've lived in both and love both. Dublin is a big cosmopolitan city. Galway is a small cosmopolitan city. By comparison, if we were discussing a place like Tuam or Sligo or Athlone, then the tone of the replies would be completely different.

Nontheless, all you need is one true friend and it doesn't matter where you are.

If your intentions are to get some casual sex, you will most likely need a reliable wingman/woman anyway.

    Good luck.

Have a look in the Making Friends thread, it's a social club of sorts.

I've lived in both Dublin and Galway. Tbh I hated Dublin but went to college close by so met lots of people through there. (Although I found most people in Dublin to be less friendly and more closed than in Galway) I then moved to Galway and that's where I've lived awhile now. As I'm actually working now I'm finding it harder to actually meet people my own age and stuff although the people in general are way friendlier I think. It just depends on your own personality/actions.

    Depends where you live op.

    What an odd question...
