Hey, sorry if this has been asked before, but I have looked and can't find the answer anywhere. I'm heading up to Dublin before, but I have very little change and so am wondering if the DART ticket machines will take copper coins ? If not do they accept debit cards either ? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have rarely used a DART ticket machine, I usually have to buy a ticket when i get off of the train because my station doesn't have a machine or people working there.
Thanks, if anyone can help :)

    Hi,

They accept 5c but not 1c or 2c. They also take debit/credit cards for whatever your fare is. No minimum spend like in some shops.

You could also purchase a Leap card and use it to pay for your Dart fare. Fares on it are a bit cheaper plus its good on Luas and buses if you ever need to use them.

They will also only accept a maximum of 32 coins* for one transaction. As I discovered one morning when I decided to empty my wallet of change and had it all returned to me.

*Pretty sure it was 32, there's no warning til you reach the max and the whole transaction is cancelled

Yes there is a upper limit on the amount of coins. I use a leap card and when topping up I use the loose change option. I usually put a few big coins in and then clear out everything down to the last 5c. A great way to use your change up!
