Basically you go upstairs in the social welfare office, line up in a queue and wait for a window to be clear, then basically you give them your social welfare card or pps number and you just accept a few questions on a mini computer and sign your name, they'll have someone behind the window that'll tell you what to do if there's any confusion.
They'll tell you your next sign on date then and away you go.
The questions are along the lines of "You are actively searching for work" etc, it's quite straight forward

JUst trying to work out what to make of somebody trying to tell me to sign on in the office on the day after it says on my post office receipt. Found the whole thing odd last week. Turned up on the day that I'd been previously told, at the time I'd previously been told and the girl behind the counter was trying to tell me that I was signing on a day early. I said I was signing on the day it said on that receipt to which she started saying i should now go by the day after it said on there. She then asked if I'd received a text saying which day to come in and since they have managed not to text me any texts up to now regarding reminding me of signing on day I just assumed they'd screwed up yet again despite my making an issue of making sure they had the number to text me at the end of the last signing on.
Aren't they supposed to let you know if they change your sign on day?

I hadn't heard of Wednesday signing on until that moment and hadn't heard of Tuesday signing on until I got off my last FÁS course. So are the numbers of people signing on still rising? Or am I being wound up?
