Thursday the 13th feb 2014 my nissan tino was giving me trouble starting 'sometimes it would turnover without starting 'other times it was just dead .I drove it straight away to atlas in swords and left it with them to check '24 hours later i got a phone call to tell me my car was showing up on diagnostic machine as multi faults and could not be fixed by them and i would have to bring it to a main dealer .Now lucky enough i know a man who is a nissan dealer in ballycoolin blanchardstown 'and he told me to bring it to him straight away 'which i did 'his mechanic had it five minutes and he fixed it 'all the problem was a loose connection in the ignition .The lesson i learned is always go to a main dealer it's cheaper in the long run

Used them before in the past. After spending a fortune on them misdiagnosing a fault (and spending 100s in the process) I brought the car to a local mechanic who knew straight away what was wrong and correctly fixed it.
Shower of chancers in my experience, that know how to charge you, but not a clue what they are doing. I don't normally bad mouth any business but they deserve it. Wouldn't go there for an oil-change...

To be fair, at least they told you they didn't know what was wrong.

Could not find a loose connection 'surely the ignition wiring is the first thing you would check 'that what a proper mechanic did and he found the fault in five minutes

    never go near them again

I went to my GP with a multitude symptoms. My GP referred me to specialist. My illness was diagnosed by specialist because he had expertise with the specific issue and resultant symptoms.

I will never go near my GP again!

Maybe you only had a loose connection' sue the basket 'If you went to him with a fly in your eye and he shoved his finger up your ass and sent you to a vet does that make him a good gp 'My point being is if these are trained mechanics or even half trained surely the first thing you would do is check the wiring 'i don't beleive these people are competent enough for you to put you or your familys lives in there hands

Who said they were trained mechanics though. Most people would only go to these chain outlets for tyres etc. That said, a very good mechanic that used to post here I think worked in one of the atlas outlets but they must be hit and miss.
My point was that at least they didn't start charging you for crap that'd wasnt needed like some would do. We don't know how easy it was to find the fault. The Nissan guys might be used to a particular fault that might not be obvious to others.

I have no connection with this establishment and they are not even local to me but let me get this story straight.

You have an issue with your car so you bring it to an independent garage to diagnose. The independent garage tells you they cannot diagnose the issue and recommend going to a main dealer. So you bring it to the main dealer who works on these specific cars all the time and obviously knows of their common problems and are able to fix it quickly. You then want everyone to avoid the independent garage because they could not diagnose your fault?

So my take on it is that the main dealer as would be expected, knows the common problems inside out on cars he deals with day in day out. I really cannot see where the complaint is here. The independent garage could not diagnose the problem and told you so rather than taking half the car apart by guessing.

Me thinks the OP is pissed because he had to pay two garages to get the issue fixed rather than the one who actually fixed it.

First of all they say the do all car repairs the mechanic who fixed al he done was shake the wiring at ignition and noticed a light flickering on dash .this told him it was a loose connection tbey had it 24hours and and they couldnt do this .would you trust these people instead of trying to defend them.i you want to let these people work on your car .then good luck.me never again no matter it costs .as far as i am concerned money does.nt come into it

Not really. A good indy should have no trouble in diagnosing and fixing issues whilst being usually cheaper than a main dealer.

Or, I bought a brand new ford, which constantly conked out -dead as a doornail. The main dealer was stumped, an indy mate found a loose earth. There you go. Sh1t happens, birds fly and cheese tastes cheesy. Your hump is lost on me. They couldn't fix it. There ya go.

I spent all day yesterday pulling apart a machine I know inside out, re-assembling and re-installing. It still didn't work, so I told the client to go to the main dealer. I know what's wrong, but I can't fix it, as the part I need is dealer only and they won't sell it to me(mainly out of spite as it happens). Does that make me a shyster? No charge to client, just the advice to go to the dealer. Same difference.
