Internet issues

    Hi

    In the past week, my internet access has become erratic. Even though my usual speed of 2.6mb/sec appears to be consistent, I'm getting messages back like "can't access the server" when trying to access sites such as Boards, Independent.ie etc. On other occasions, I get a text only version of the site with no graphics.

    I'm reluctant to report this to my provider as I'm fed up going through the "reboot your modem", "take off your filters", "put on your filters", "disconnect your sky box (I don't have sky)" routine with them. I always explain to them that I've already tried all these things but they insist on going through the motions before they send out an engineer. And on the two occasions the engineer did come, he couldn't find a fault in the line and blamed my internal wiring. However he did have to replace some node in the exchange the first time which did fix the problem for a time.

    So any ideas what's wrong with my broadband? Is it simply congestion? Would I be cynical in thinking that Eircom are overloading the line to force people to switch to efibre (I won't get it as I live in the sticks).

    What router have you got? Please post your line statistics? Are you connected wirelessly or LAN cable? How many people connected?

    My line stats are

    Ping = 60
    Download = 2.6mb/sec
    Upload = 0.3mb/sec

    I primarily use my iPad and therefore wifi, which my Apple TV box is also using. My router is a Netgear DG834v3. It's about 6 years old now. There's usually just one person on the internet at any one time so it's not a case of multiple users trying to all download different material at the same time and thus clogging the line.

    When I say line stats, I mean the actual live information on your Netgear. please login and check the stats (under Maintenance I believe).
