Polo 6n 1.4 no spark

    Hi all,
I need to call on the experts of boards once again...

My 1996 Polo 1.4 seems to have no ignition spark. It was standing for the last 10 days or so and was fine before that.

All the fuses are intact, I took off the fuel lines from the fuel rail and confirmed it's pumping fuel, I tried pouring a bit of petrol down the throttle body to no effect. All the HT leads are intact and dry, the coil and lead are dry.

So, how do I find the fault? And what common faults are there?

Did you take out plugs and watch for spark?

It looks like it's the leads after all. I just got it going (badly) and no.2 & no.3 are arcing visibly to the plugs. I have the filter housing off and can see the flashes from under the rubber sheaths.

It was the leads. I cleaned a bit of corrosion out of each of the lead tips and now it's starting normally. New leads are on the shopping list for as soon as I can get to the motor factors.
